One big gripe about FoS this year

I went yesterday on the Thursday for the first time (usually go on a Friday or Saturday) and being a veteran of previous years actually found it a really good day out, despite some things (like the rally stage) not running on that day. BUT one thing that really pi**ed me off isn't the price of the food, it's the sh*t quality of most if it:
- If you are going to charge Five Guys prices of £6.50 for a cheeseburger, at least provide something that seems vaguely worth that money rather than a cheap white bread roll with a processed meat burger (of dubious quality) and a wafer thin piece of processed cheese, no onion, salad etc.
The other thing is that many of the traders seem to be straight off a market stall with a lot of hawking going on as you walk past - not something I've noticed in previous years, I know the poor sods have to make the dubious commercial decision of paying whatever extortionate fee they have to somehow turn a profit, but that isn't my problem.
Shame really, the food thing though really annoys me, because just improving the quality would go a long way to making the rip-off prices there seem more justifiable.

The quality might be pretty good but in the GRRC tent I was speccing my 'Buttermilk chicken burger' and the young girl serving put one tiny fillet of chicken into the bun, this fillet was genuinely the size of two chicken nuggets, this is an £8.50 chicken burger...! £8.50 without fries I should add. Whilst by no means cheap, the food sold by the Goodwood outlets is of good quality.
Like the OP I understand that when going to an event like this you have to pay over the odds for food, ok I can live with paying over double the price of what this would cost you anywhere else, but paying double the price for half of the food you would get anywhere else is an absolute rip off. Even more so when you're in a tent that you can only be in because you've already paid an annual membership fee to the people selling you the overpriced food.
I moaned and they gave me a bit more chicken but there is no reason I should have to moan, just give people a decent product for the extortionate price they are forced to pay (if they don't want to lug a packed lunch around).
Other than that, great day.

I now bring my own in a thermos lunchbox, £12 in M&S bought me enough decent food to feed me between 7am and 7pm comfortably.

The OP never mentioned being a member, thought it was more a general comment about the food on site, which in my opinion is no more expensive than equivalent events but generally of better quality.milfordkong said:

You don't need to pay membership to buy food from Goodwood outlets - they are scattered all over the site for anyone to use.I had an Indonesian Curry yesterday from one of the on-site vendors (that's all they did, and had Chicken, Beef or veg, and all were gluten free if that's of consequence to anyone) - it's was very good and also a good size portion. No complaints from me, and in my opinion, a step up from the normal burgers and fries brigade...

I was in a GRRC tent, which is only accessibly to GRRC members -This was the main topic and gripe of my post which came directly before the post I then quoted - On reflection he was probably responding to the initial post with his own point which makes sense however I was just re-stating my point that regardless of the perceived quality of the meat or ingredients, being stingy with portions in a restaurant you're already paying twice to be in and then paying over the odds again for the products within is in my opinion taking it too far, whether you're at an event or otherwise. I think that they should give adequate portions of the decent quality food that they serve, that's all.
Just to clarify, I am not a GRRC member (that's another discussion in terms of Goodwood's latest ruse to raise money from those on the waiting list etc. which has been discussed elsewhere), so was commenting on the catering for the general public. My main point in response 'no worse than other events' comments, is that FoS is intentionally an upmarket event, aimed at a certain demographic/wallet size, and by allowing below standard food vendors at the event they are undermining this by requiring (or allowing) them to charge extortionate prices for crap food, as well as making those attending feel disppointed and ripped-off in the process. It is just clumsy marketing and greed IMHO...

Just to sidetrack a moment, the Rally Stage stated at 1:00 pm. Agree with high food prices, but normal for Motorsport, festivals, etc.
I won’t pay £3 for crap coffee, nor £5 for rank mini donuts at Brands Hatch for example.
Just take a flask, some nice salads from Waitrose or M&S.
Or, I can highly reccomend for the Revival the ‘Farmer, Butcher, Chef’ package? Not cheap, but you get parking at the hotel, breakfast (and posh loos) , estate sourced food. Transfer right into Revival in vintage cars or Audi’s, then back to hotel for lunch. Then more transfers. Perfect if you are with company who may not be as much of a petrolhead as you, but probably prettier.
