For this year's Revival I need to set off from Shoreham to get to Goodwood on Sunday. A route I have never travelled before.

I imagine Google will give me the most straightforward route - but what's the best way in to avoid getting stuck?

Personally I'd head up to Steyning then across through Storrington, Amberley, Slindon, Eartham and then across Selhurstpark road.

OK, the drive is a bit convoluted but the A27 around Arundel/Chichester is a nightmare at weekends, the roads should be clearer and it's a decent drive in the countryside.

However sensible timing to avoid the main arrival times (i.e. be early) will also help.

An early start is the key, you should really be aiming to be arriving at the car park entrance at 7.00-07.30 am, Shoreham to Goodwood on the A27 is an easy drive of around 30-40 mins at that time of the morning with no congestion at Worthing or Arundel to contend with, leave it an hour later and you can probably add 20 to 30 mins to your journey time.

Don't bother with the A259 via Littlehampton and Bognor, it might look direct but it's far too slow with lots of lights and roundabouts.

Coming back the the inland route via Steyning is your best way home, it's a nice steady drive through lovely countryside and you will miss the late afternoon queue when the A27 goes from 2 to 1 lanes at Arundel and the usual clog up at Worthing.

I live in Arundel.
Aim to go past us by 7.30am latest and you should be fine on the A27.
Going back to Shoreham in the evening, check live traffic! If there’s a bad queue going into Arundel, take the A29 off at Fontwell - when you get to the roundabout at the top of Bury Hill, turn right, last exit, back down into Arundel, and you’ll miss the whole queue.

Hideously expensive.

Were charging £250 landing fee’s during FoS.

Not possible at all during the Revival. The only option is rotary to a field and a taxi transfer in.

Ian it is possible to fly into the revival although helicopter is the only option https://www.goodwood.com/estate/aerodrome/arriving...

A few years ago I arrived on the Thursday evening prior to The Revival via helicopter and they even waived the landing fees smokin

Ditto live in the Arundel area & have attended nearly every R & FoS.
The last few years traffic has got worse & now I'm parked up by 7am at the latest. Still a big queue at the gate of course.
On more than one occasion I arrived at 6.30am & walked in amidst a gaggle of staff !!!! Had a ticket of course & enjoyed 30 minutes of the R to myself.
Until recently you could still do this but now security has been strengthened & all individuals are checked for the requisite wrist band/pass.
Bury Hill return route is excellent advice. Leave mid afternoon which is no hardship if your visiting more than one day.

i'll get in to all sorts of trouble, but turn right at the roundabout for Fontwell village. There's AA signs, saying 'no access to'

ignore that, take the second left at the top of the road, through Settrington village, to the end and turn right to the car parks. My GRRC sticker always helps getting parked properly as well wink

i think things like this should be left to people's ingenuity/cunning.

making it public will either ps off the locals or mean it is closed.

I wouldn’t worry - he’s identified the wrong roundabout and the directions after that are complete gobbledegook too! I know what route he’s trying to say though ...

was rather surprised that i got told off to be honest.

If you're lucky enough to be a yocal and live that close to an event, i cant really see how its possible to complain? i'm sure the circuit was there long before a lot of the yocal residences moved in?

NIMBYISM at it's best. a little like moving to Charlwood, for example, and then complaining about all the dam planes.
