Was watching the live stream on Sunday.so may have not been shown - but In 2014 when they did a similar D Day commemoration they had about 20 D day veterans driven round in Jeeps at the head of the display - I didn't see any on Sunday?
But another 5 years means ever fewer left, and given the youngest D-Day vet will be 89/90 years of age, its probably not surprising there ween't any in the parade.

It may have thrilled many but few within the professional aviation community were impressed & it undermined whatever credibility he had earned as a Red Arrows leader etc.
Well, I've known many (and still know a few) in that community in the past 35 years and never have I heard one say that then or since.

Yes there was, it was announced by Goodwood in advance but cancelled by the authorities.

The idiots responsible for killing airshows have caused this and it has destroyed half of the Revival for me. I am so glad I used to attend when the Air component was as vital a part as the car and “girly stuff”. We are a long way removed from the Hannas

Just imagine if the Merlin had decided to depart its frame as Hanna was boring down towards the finishing straight - think Farnborough & the DH110. I suspect that he may well have been considered an "idiot".
You really think the engine could have broken away? Can you think of a single case where a Spitfire or similar has broken up during a low pass?

Exactly- I certainly can’t.
And I find the comment regarding Ray Hanna and his supposed inflated opinion of himself as a display pilot quite distasteful. He was and I’m sure he will remain the finest Spitfire display pilot I’ve ever seen.

Finally the charade of the D-Day tribute was a bit distasteful. People dressing up as GIs playing soldiers is not a tribute to the Brits, Canadians, Poles, Australians, Indians, S.Africans who also fought in Normandy. His Grace's comparisons with 1066 were WOTM and the tone of his address came over more as empty jingoism than true patriotic and appropriate sentiment. My dad fought in Burma in WW2; my grandad was captured at the Battle of Le Catteau when the rearguard finally ran out of ammo - they both would have thought that these tributes were clearly arranged by people with little understanding of true commemoration.
That's because Revival is now 'professionally' organised by people that are shall we say........are uninterested in enlisting the help of those groups/organisations that have the knowledge to do it correctly.

However, I think the idea was more (or should have been) more about showing the public some of the range of vehicles that would have been massed all around the area of Goodwood in preparation for the Invasion.

I have to say, after hearing the first of his 'addresses' many years ago when going the first time, I now make sure I'm well away from listening to them wink
At least his sister has given up the singjng.

They stopped calling it the Confederate Air Force over 20 years ago. It's called the Commemorative Air Force these days.
They've also never been invited over to Goodwood.
In fact I think the only aircraft they have ever brought to Europe was the B-24 Diamond Lil, back in the early 90's.
I am confused.com then and will to revisit the family photo archives. We probably have some pics somewhere. The chaps may well have initially come over as private citizens and were also part of the CAF. I didnt get the chance to talk with the bloke this year, Im sure he will be back next year and flesh out the part-remembered history smile My hazed n dazed memory is that Im sure they brought one or two planes over that first time. Things in many ways were much less formal on the organisation front of the Revival back then.

Second that. He's not a natural orator.

I'd like to know what kind of clothes chunky women are supposed to wear ?
If like me, you are very very chunky, clothing for the revival is very limited. Rather than go down the route of wearing jeans I wear a dress albeit just below the knees to at least try to fit in. At least people are trying to dress in period clothing
There must of been chunky people in the 40’s .
I'm pretty chunky, but think I'll stick to a shirt and jacket... I don't think the revival is ready for me to turn up in a dress yet, even if it is below the knee wink

The ‘authorities’ sounds harsh. Didn’t the aircraft have an engine failure the previous week?

Is that the case? I read on another Goodwood forum that it was not allowed but you may have better information.

Crikey chaps, can we not just enjoy the event for what it is? Nowhere else in the world does it.

The BBMF one is hors de combat I believe. There were, of course, two on-site in the Concours

The BBMF Dakota wasn’t down for Goodwood so it must have been another. There’s plenty about though.

The polished one had an impressively low number of hours on it also...
