The internet says there's the Retro Rides Weekender at the motor circuit this coming weekend.

Whether it is going ahead still I don't know ...

Most definitely going ahead - I contribute to the event organisation from a track perspective

2019 "BC" Video (Before Covid)

Unfortunately the Tat Auction cannot take place but socially distanced fun will be had

Sprint format track activity on Saturday with 100 cars entered

Autosolo format track activity on Sunday with 60 cars out of 90 spaces booked in - will be spaces RWYB available on the day for the afternoon

Should be a good event with the usual mix of classic, modified classic as well as weird and wonderful from Retro Rides

Autosolo videos from last event - kinda give you a flavour

Yep anything "on Track" is managed by Goodwood - getting them to track is RR responsibility - worked well last two times

Worth noting of course that it means the circuit is closed to the general public on both days, so no point turning up unless you have a ticket.

(GRR has just confirmed this on social media although the online circuit diary doesn't mention it).

Correct ticketed event - no gate sales

We were out - a little bit of normality was restored - sure a few things didn’t exactly mean completely back to normal

Fantastic weather, track action was good and cars participating were varied - from hillman imp to unimog (with everything in between).

Haven’t heard a single negative comment - Most people just seemed super happy to actually be at a car show/event after so long.

Ticketing and entry was electronic for first time for this event be interesting to know how smooth that was from an attendee perspective.

Would be nice if any other PH’rs who did go would post their comments - or ping me a message throu the email me link

Have a pink Rover 100 1.1 (rattle caned in graff paint and bought for £300) it was on track at the same time as cars worth £100,000

Thoroughly enjoyed Sunday when we attended, electronic tickets seemed to work well.

Dod you watch the Autosolo track activity - I’d be interested in how it looked from a viewing perspective??

It’s huge fun to do but being a compact track activity with a decent viewing area it seems more popular in terms of people watching but thats just an impression I have

The Sprint activity on the Saturday I know is great fun for drivers but is a little poor from a spectator viewpoint (5 cars set off at staggered intervals and no overtaking allowed on circuit means it’s a tricky one to balance car/driver abilities in the running order) but we will try to develop something different for 2022

Retro Rides two events are the best for me. A great eclectic mix of cars and friendly people. I was really disappointed not to be there last weekend as my LSD failed and I didn't have it back in time.

There's another event at Shelsey Walsh later this summer. The hill will be in action as usual but it is also a ticketed event.

We filmed part of the Petrolicious video there a couple of years back and hope to be there in the #bmw16v02 this time.

I did a few times, especially as it was right by the entrance/exit gate and you could see the drivers grinning as they came off the course to head back to the pits/show.

I mentioned on the RR photo thread how cars like GCF's 2CV caught some unawares - in a good way. I guess most folks weren't expecting a supercharged BMW powered 2CV smile

Round of applause from the spectators for the Unimog driver as he straightlined/bypassed the chicane, and laughter at the tanker like turning circle meaning he had to cross the grass and part of the circuit.

Excellent mix of cars - Yank tanks, slammed MX5s, jacked up Discovery, VW camper, nimble Minis, fishtailing barges, wheel spinning Carlos Fandangos, or those being smooth and neat to beat their previous times.

Only small fly in the ointment was that you couldn't always see a car from start to finish due to the number of spectators along the fence/banking but that just shows how well attended it was.

Oh, and the electric ticketing worked just fine - and I was lucky to be given a free ticket by a fellow RR'r who sadly couldn't make it.

Thanks again for all the work you and the others put into it - really appreciate it and what a great start to the show season.

It was smiles all round in the paddock

I love Alex's car - it's proper bonkers - he was supposed to be at sea but his trip was postponed so he contacted me for a space and I was happy to slot him in

I'm not going to say too much on a public forum but Goodwood had some specific criteria for that to run - and it was by and large accomplished - It would not be Retro Rides if we didn't stick something utterly daft down the track biggrin

The Jacked up discovery owner "Phil" was slightly miffed that the Unimog got to run - as he fancied the title of "daftest autosolo vehicle 2021" I've seen a video of him doing the course and it looked pretty good

One participant was getting his passenger to time him on a phone - he took 14 secs of his time in 3 runs and was just getting quicker

I had said to everyone at the Briefing - take it slow and then build up gradually and you'll improve much faster that trying to go quickly and cocking up the course

It looked nicely spread out along the fence whenever I looked but perhaps it was perspective

Was really worried about this - first time is always a bit of a butt clencher

Ahhh - I did wonder with the 2CV comment when I read that.

Funniest moment for me was Tony (Goodwood staffer who set up the course) talking to a mate of mine Matt in his white Skyline - he said "that looks like it's going to be a little drifty"

Matt said " I'm going to take it easy for the first few runs because I'd like to learn the course and if I start properly drifting I'm likely to clip a few cones"

He promptly lit it up from the start line, drifted the whole course and donutted the last cone before finishing the course to some applause - he never touched a single cone

Tony said to me "what the hell is he gonna be like when he's not taking it easy"

I just said same but quicker and with a lot more smoke biggrin
