Restrictions are pushed back to July 19th ( at the earliest) so I expect a communication from Goodwood after Boris announces it on Monday. It’s at least going to be delayed, at worst pushed back to next year. The team must be tearing their hair out. The issue will be the public liability insurance. There’s no way anyone will under write on a mass gathering, when the official line is as it is right now. It would be illegal to do so.

I got the impression it is up to 19th at the latest, could be 2 weeks earlier. However whacking a 4 week delay onto FoS should be safe.

It can’t surely be as simple as just saying push it back 4 weeks- manufacturers will have other commitments, as might some of the hospitality providers not to mention a huge proportion of the staff, drivers, cars etc etc. I’m not saying it can’t be done but just don’t think it’s that simple.

The biggest problem is going to be the insurance, and local authority licences. They won’t be granted under current restrictions, so I’d imagine that’s that.

You got the wrong impression then. It’s July the 19th at the earliest.

It’s up to 4 weeks with a review at 2 weeks to possibly release earlier https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-...

I spoke with Goodwood ticket office this past week and asked them the question about crowd capacity and they said they’d be running at 85% capacity on both Saturday and Sunday, which is clearly on the assumption that all remaining restrictions would have been lifted on 21 June. Feel sorry for Goodwood as planning for this must be a complete nightmare
I think 85% is somewhere in the 45-55k ballpark (per day).
Under normal circumstances the limit, imposed by the local council, is 50K per day. 85% is therefore 42.5K (per day).

No, it’s July 19th earliest. No question, no arguments, no two week ‘opt out’. It’s unfortunate, but it is what it is. I feel for the poor sods that have to deal with this.

If the rumours are of a delay, i would think that’s pretty much a certainty? Probably leaked by the government to lessen the shock of the announcement.

Just then have to decide whether to try and get a refund or roll the tickets over until next year (again). Then cancel the hotel/ b&b rooms booked (feel sorry for them too)

This is me and my boys must do event during the year, traditional that we spend the 4 days together doing lads stuff. Pretty much the only time we get to spend together during the year due to work commitments. Two years missing it is absolutely gutting. He’s 23 now and I just hope he won’t decide that after missing two years, he wants to stop going!! He’ll probably be buying a house, getting married etc etc in the coming few yrs and i can see that sort of stuff taking over in importance.

As I get older and mortality creeps up on us, these are the events etc that become important, he’s at an age where he’s indestructible and has years left, i feel sometimes that each year could be the last so every one is important to me.

That’s the most gutting thing about any delays or cancellations to the event. COVID can f**k right off now!

Nothing has been officially confirmed yet. However likely it looks. Telegraph is jumping the gun there.

News is also reporting that if it runs for 6 weeks then they are likely to leave restrictions in place until next spring as a rise in winter will occur otherwise. News still reporting up to 4 weeks.

Listening to news seems certain for delay, but numbers for outside weddings and events maybe increased.
Not sure how many tickets have been sold for each day but if current rules are 4,000 perhaps they will be increased to the 20k seen at Wembley

I’ve got a horrible feeling that this is going to run at current levels until we’ve had a full winter ‘season’ and BoJo has already stated he won’t hesitate to chuck the anchor out if he’s advised to do so. I think most people are resigned to the way things are with cycles of lockdown and release, so there won’t be much real resistance to it.

... Which means both Revival and Members' could be at risk.

Of course, at this point we are just guessing - thinks should be clearer by the end of the day.

In relation to FoS - I did feel Goodwood had gone too early'. It was always a gamble with a major event so close to the EARLIEST date for changes. If your business is 'entertainment' of course you want to get back ASAP with events - they need to be making money to run the estate, and also in order to put on the other events we all like to attend. Just seemed to be a bad bet to me.

Seperate to this, if it is true and around 42k tickets per day have been sold - that is an awful lot of people to have in one space. It looks like a further 'bad bet' to sell so many. I realise there is a point where it just isn't worth doing.

My expectation is a four week delay - or if that isn't possible from Goodwood's end, then a cancellation.

We can but hope. Perhaps they will allow organised outdoor events with proof of a negative test for all.

They will, however, not at the levels required to make the FOS viable. I hope there’s a way around this, but personally speaking, I just can’t see it.

The biggest issue with that will be control. At Wembley, they allocated people arrival time windows, insisted on no mixing in the indoor communal areas where possible / practical, everyone was seated, during the match, and they controlled the exits after the match, hardly any of that would be possible with the FOS, in its usual / recognised format. I’m sure there may be a way to run the event, it just won’t be in its recognised format, which is why I’d say it’s a fair bet that they’ll be left with no choice but to suspend it again. I expect we will know in fairly short order, as Goodwood don’t mess about with important decisions.

Agreed. The logistics alone for the FOS must be huge. Cars coming in from all over the world and all of the construction/deconstruction that happens. It can't be easy shifting that a few weeks.

There is a possible way to do it. It relies on a total Hail Mary manoeuvre from Goodwood. They press on as if there hasn’t been a delay. Then keep everything crossed that a week before the new ‘freedom day’ it is indeed announced as happening this time. I can’t see them taking the risk personally, but we shall see. There will be a lot of egg on a lot of faces if it goes wrong.
