I always do 7am to 3.45ish, have driven straight out at that time for 14 years no problem, yesterday I sat in a queue for 45 minutes out of A East and then at traffic lights onto the main road.
That's what we usually do also. The F1 paddock was virtually empty at about 7:30am, and was a pleasure to have a wander about without being crowded out.coolchris said:
Went yesterday never seen it so busy for a Friday took 45 mins to get out car park at 7pm which confirmed how much busier it was than previous years.Good day so much to see definitely an influx of the influencers scene there.Saw a huge crowd at the lotus stand wondered what was going on my mate said must be a famous driver or some a lister.Had a nose and was Schmee.Maybe I'm just a fossil and haven't moved with the times but I just dont get all the attention these influencers command
Jenson Button was there.Just lost my FOS virginity today, thanks all for the tips over the past few days.
Here are my thoughts and experiences:
- My gf and I arrived circa 8am into the car park on Sunday (Waze predicted 7.45am but delayed by the road changes). We were far from the first people there, but it was definitely quiet enough when we got in to look at the immediate exhibitions and actually get in the cars without 100 people waiting in line. I don't think we'd try to get there any earlier.
- We didn't get Grandstand access as lots of veterans seem to advise against paying the (admittedly extortionate) upgrade price, but I would 100% get them for next year. Yes, you can stand by the track and try and glimpse something over a hay bail, or heave a camping chair around, but for me it's not worth the hassle factor for a compromised view. So I will stomach the increased ticket price - or convince my girlfriend to let me buy a BMW so we can sit in their owners' grandstand
- We brought sandwiches and snacks, but there were plenty of (also extortionate) food places which looked quite nice and didn't have huge queues.
- We left just after 3pm. Traffic was completely fine - guess that's quite early - but we definitely felt like we'd seen enough. Next time would probably stay a little longer with grandstand seats.
- We (I) did a terrible job of planning so we didn't really get ourselves well setup to make the most of the Hill Climb. For example, the supercar paddock was great, but the point at which we got there it was empty as they were doing their run up the hill!
- The performance car park at the top of the main paddock (next to where the tractor takes you up to the rally stage) was great. We really enjoyed having a wander round and seeing some "real life" metal.
- The Cartier Style et Luxe was another highlight for us - some really cool stuff on show across all ages.
Overall, it's just a great day out. Good vibe, nice crowd, loads to see and do. Thanks again for the tips!

Getting out of the car park today was awful, no one managing it and people cutting across the spaces (at speed) to cut in line further down. Arses.
I'd recommend anyone coming early to park on the left of the public parking before the trees and walking up, then you can pretty much get straight out (into the queue) whatever time you get back.

Another festival virgin here whose cherry was popped on Saturday. What a fantastic day! The only downside was the 4.30am set-off time from north London and the four-hour journey home due to a gridlocked M25. Next year I’ll rent a place for a few nights to make things easier.
I arrived at the performance car parking area at 6.45am on the Saturday. Hardly any traffic. The car was fine all day. No layers of dust as feared - probably helped by being in the eastern car park, rather than the one by the rally stage tractor route.
A lovely friendly crowd with a great atmosphere throughout the day. The highlights for me were standing in the paddocks seeing all the classic Ferraris setting off for the hill climb. What a sound! My ears are still ringing. I was also blown away by getting to see the rally stage. Those drivers have seriously large balls of steel!
The queues for food and drinks weren’t too bad and the prices are what I’d expect at a festival. The best advice I had before Saturday was get there early and leave early. I set off around 4pm and encountered very little traffic - apart from the nightmare on the M25.
I’ll definitely be going next year, either camping or air B&B for a few nights.
And a big thank you to the very nice man on the Caterham stand. I was just about to sit in one of the standard width cars to try it out for size when he very subtly advised me to try the wider body version first. He wasn’t wrong. Even that was on the snug side! It’s a serious diet for me before I think of buying one. Here’s to a slimmer chubby Ross for next year!

What’s the requirement for “Performance” parking? Can
anyone park here or do you need to provide the make and model when booking? Would a Caterham qualify?

Is there a huge difference of what happens on each day or is each day the same with minor differences.
Thursday is mainly manufacturer running although year on year they are adding some of the main batches in, Rally Stage is afternoon only.Friday and Saturday largely the same now, same batches throughout the day and various practice/quali sessions for the shootout, hill running is pretty constant. Sunday is slightly more 'for telly' with the timed shootout and a few other things breaking up the flow of the day a bit but still full sets of batches. Rally Stage all day Fri, Sat, Sun although on Sunday there can be much larger gaps in the action and depending on where you are potentially no idea of how long those gaps are!
Air Displays a bit more variable as they depend on (for example) other big bookings for the Red Arrows, although I think all 4 days typically get something these days.
Hi, a festival newbie here. I’m looking at the basic admission tickets for a family of four. Any thoughts on the following:
I get free basic parking - is that fine or should I consider upgrading to performance parking?
As first timers, do we need/want grandstand access - it is a big price bump.
I’ve a BMW, so would that allow me access to their grandstand which negates having the grandstand tickets?
Any other thoughts and insights would be great. I think we will stay in a hotel the day prior (suggestions welcome).

How old are your children? Younger than 10 then I’d say its a tough long day for them especially if you try to see everything. I get free basic parking - is that fine or should I consider upgrading to performance parking?

Assume you own an M/Alpina/Hartge to qualify for the performance parking? However I wouldn’t bother wherever you park your car is going to be covered in dust by the time you get back to it. The only reason I’d say it’s worth it is if you wanted to save money and picnic as it means it’s a short walk back to the car and you could easily spend more than its value on food for a family of 4.
I always say no need for grandstands on your first visit the chances are you won’t see much going up the hill as there’s just so much to see in the paddocks and around the site (especially with kids)
The BMW stand has got smaller (as has the owners area) the last time I visited it was about a 20min wait to get in as it was one in one out but you did get free tea and coffee and water. The view is not as good as the main grandstands as they locate it between the stands so is in a less desirable location. (Treat it for refreshments not for viewing).
Hotels you will find are already booked in the area or very expensive. So move out 30min west or east.

Thanks. They are 10 and 14 and car nuts; that should keep them going. I’ve a lesser M50, so not a full fat M.
Don’t know what an M50 is but if it’s not on the list it’s not getting in (however somehow cars do still sneak in despite the caveat at the bottom saying you will be turned away) but could be throwing some money away if you are. https://www.goodwood.com/globalassets/motorsport/g...
