Goodwood Revival
Discussion
I used go purely for the cars / other vehicles / machines, stick myself out by St.Mary’s / no name / Lavant, and pretty much stay out there. Recently, I’ve mellowed a lot, and enjoy the whole show for what it is. I enjoy wandering around the show paddocks, and the entertainment in the various enclosures / tents dotted around. If I want purely historic racing, with not much side show, there are other options available.

I’ve always embraced it but I’ve been there for the racing. These days I go for the whole entertainment package with my wife and friends joining us. The quality of the cars and racing is second to none, so yes - go and enjoy it! I’m a similar age and it’s definitely one of the highlights of the year for me and my dad. Two of the others being the MM and FoS of course.
As others have said, just wear something demure and not blatantly modern (no bright coloured anoraks or obvious modern branded things) and you’ll fit right in and nobody will bat an eyelid. I just go for chinos and shirt with a waxed jacket, as do thousands of others.
Some people do make extraordinary efforts, whether or not representative of how people would have dressed at Goodwood originally - fair play to them for a bit of fun, you definitely don’t need to though.

Never done Revival but did FoS in the early days before it became a be seen at event. Dad did Revival and said once only never again.
Long way away, huge costs, so it's a no for me, love the fact it exists, (as do race car prep people) but Goodwood was priced out of my pocket a long time ago sadly.

If you're going for one day only, I've always thought the Saturday is the better day (and it always sells out first..).
Yep, it leaves you a day to recover, if you’re there for 1 day. It’s also when the Stirling Moss memorial race happens, which now is the best line up for me, given that the RAC TT is nearly all Cobras / Ford GT 40s and E-types now.On the website for tickets, it says:
“ The Woodcote Grandstand on Saturday and Sunday will be no longer be 'seated' and instead be included within the Roving Grandstand ticket. This means that the Roving Grandstand pass will now allow you to access up to eight locations round the circuit.”
Was the woodCote grandstand previously allocated seating (and will now just be first come first served) or does this mean it’ll be a standing grandstand?

It was previously numbered seating. “ The Woodcote Grandstand on Saturday and Sunday will be no longer be 'seated' and instead be included within the Roving Grandstand ticket. This means that the Roving Grandstand pass will now allow you to access up to eight locations round the circuit.”

No standing allowed in any grandstands !
I've just received an e-mail from Goodwood (as I'm sure we all have) listing the races for 2025. Front-engined FJs, 1950s saloons, but otherwise the same as every year. Nothing new there, but it's a winning formula.
Apparently , Stirling Moss won the 1960 and 1961 TTs driving a 250GTO. Everyday's a school day.

Thanks all - decision made. As an aside, also glad there has been a bit of debate in this sub-forum as sometimes it is very quiet here!
Thanks

Hi RobThanks
Rob
I'm a little late to the party on this thread. I have been going to the Revival since 2002, only missed a couple.
Some thoughts from me
- It is enormous and seems to be getting more expansive every year. One can't hope to see everything, even on a three day ticket. I often say it takes a few years to see everything.
- Dressing up. A must, as others have said, it doesn't take much but it is good to get into the spirit. In my view those who don't try, look a little left out.
- If you are only there for one day, try and get there really early. Traffic management is good and parking plentiful but you can be stuck in queues for ~ hour.
- Book accommodation early.
