That picture with the 2 guys next to the car is just England in a nutshell. Great stuff.
Ta. My dad in the left in *ironed* flares ?? Guy on the right was a local newspaper report who navigated for him for an article. They won their class!
Hadrians camp stages in about 1978.
Apologies to everyone for going wildly off topic!
It's a small world as I'm originally from Longtown and spent most of 20's living in Crosby on Eden, mainly at the Stag. Used to know people who lived in mill house years ago, must be right next to you. Work full-time in race organization now, look after all of the GW events etc. alongside a lot of historic & classic racing.

I was one of the ops clerks at Members this year, that was me starting the races with the union flag on Sunday.

That’s brilliant! Small world indeed. We often used to go to the stag in the 90’s. It’s reopened now, but haven’t been yet. If anyone is interested there's a Youtube video focussing on the Gurney Cup where Frank Stipler recovered from the back of the grid to win in the Ferrari 206.
In the post race interview he explains the throttle got stuck and it was going well past the rev limiter but it held together. Perhaps partially explains the epic drive.

Venisonpie, I'm interested in buying your old SL500 and would really appreciate some input from you regarding the car. It's up for sale on Autotrader but I can't PM or email you. Is there any way to get in touch if you're ok with that? Thanks in advance, Billy.

Thanks for the reply. No, missed it by a couple of hours, it sold on Saturday 23rd morning. I waited for a few days then thought I'd call about it but was pipped by another buyer who had called that morning. It was sold to him.
It sounded like a nice one but I'm up in Glasgow and it was for sale in Letchworth about 350 miles away and that's why I was wanting some info before I took the plunge. Hey-ho, the search goes on but Mauritius blue is rare and hard to find.
As a wee side note. I read you toured Northern Spain in it. I did the same last September, Bilbao to Santiago de Compostela in my convertible A5. Fab trip, especially the Picos de Europa.
Thanks again for your reply.
Cheers.

It was a good car and I was sad to see it go, as you say the colour is nice and it presents well (there are several in the samr colour, two were available when I bought it). We had 2 European trips and it was the ideal vehicle.
I think the price of R230's is now crashing into R231's which move the game on but perhaps aren't as nice to look at.

I reckon he may JUST have caught the Sunbeam on the line. Such a shame, but good to know he wasn't injured. Plenty of spares still available for that model..........
Repaired and back out with the VSCC at Mallory last weekend. Quite a job from what I understand.Gassing Station | Goodwood Events | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
