As the title says, I am just wondering if it is worth dishing out around £30 for one of my own, or make a quick stop at the local bike shop to get them to stick some air in and a sag setup for say no more than £10.

Is it something that is used quite alot or is it just a one off setup and ride away.

I do have a lock out on the bike so i am fine for road/off road settings.

Buy your own, your shock will lose pressure over time and you don't want to have to go back to your LBS every time it goes soft.

Also, I find that I adjust the pressure in mine depending on terrain, conditions etc. I have the GIANT shock pump which has an adapter so you can also use it on the tyres, which is very handy indeed!

i bought a specialised shck pump for £30, its meant to do everything, low pressure tyres, high pressure tyres and shocks but its quite bulky and I already have micro pumps and track pumps so its only really going to be used for the shocks. that said, it does the job.

Save some money - £10 - 15 on Ebay for the same unit that many other companies rebrand as their own.

Did exactly this. There's really no difference an I use mine once a month or so just to check the pressure.

If you have air springs front or rear, you NEED a shock pump, simple as.

The dirt cheap generic ones on ebay etc are fine.

Buy one Forman lbs and get them to set your stuff up?

Your forks and shocks usually have a weight guide

Cool, i was looking at the BETO ones but thought the price may reflect the quality given that some manufactures charge double and tripple that.

Thanks for the advice smile

The BETO pump is fine - it’s rebranded and sold for double what they are going for under the BETO brand.

Pressure guage is important:

Rear shock generaly have 150-300 psi but some forks will only require 10-15 psi. LBS will try and sell you two pumps, a high presssure one and a low pressure one... Only difference is the scale of the guage, cheap guages can be had on ebay i believe.
