That was horrendous, I was getting blown inside out on the Gosport / Stokes bay section. Winter miles, summer smiles laugh

I went the ‘right’ direction along Lee on Solent and Stokes Bay this morning and was absolutely flying! Just under 50kph on the flat is pretty good going for me.

Cam's Mill is less than 2 miles from my house. It was incredibly windy today, was quite nice riding to work earlier, but heading home was not particularly fun!

Not too bad now but god it was grim at 8:30 this morning in Rutland. Constant 15mph headwind but the coffee and mince pie at Belvoir Castle was nice

Horrific head winds again today. I was making enough power for about 18 mph, and only seeing 13-14. This was the first of this / next year’s ‘training rides’ for a local charity’s ‘challenge ride’ 270 miles over 2 or 3 days in May 2019, in conjunction with British Cycling.

Got my small camera kit sorted, so I could finally take a proper camera out on a ride with me. This was just from a local ride to prove it out, but hopefully I will be getting to somewhere more photogenic than Coventry soon!

Vitus Nucleus? VR or VRS?

650b or 29er?

How does it ride?

I’m looking at a 2019 29 VR, as a cheap supplement to my two road bikes.

I live 15 mins from Llandegla so fancy something I can take there for a blast....as a change from pootling around the back lanes of Cheshire and N Wales....

Yes, it is a Vitus Nucleus. It is the 27.7” model from 2014, when they only had one model in each wheel size. It is a bit of a Trigger’s broom - only the frame, bars and brakes are original, but I have done over 5,000km on it, including trail centres.

Humid and misty this morning, so headed along some wooded singletrack for fun and chilled out by the Dam...

Picked up a slow puncture on the last stretch of singletrack so just ambled home rather than stop and change. It was that sort of morning.

Lots of lessons learned, and a plan shaping for next year targeting 700km.

I'm just going to say also - the winner - Christophe Strasser (multi RAAM winner as well) - completed an additional FOUR HUNDRED KM. I just can't even.
Top bombin' `thumbup

Borrego Springs is on my bucket list. Are you riding Mersey Roads next year? It'll be one of my main targets for 2019. I won't trouble the specialists but I'm hoping to crack the top 10.

I had a couple of hours to spare so went to Sandwell Valley Park rather than anywhere epic. Still a nice spin, a good place to practice some skills.

I recognise that from my distant days as a runner. "Surrey Slog" being a particularly evil 1/2 marathon that involves 4 separate ascents to the monument at the top of Holmbury Hill from the 4 faces of the hill. Disappointingly the route was largely in the trees, so few views apart from the brief time on the summit on each loop.
