Haven't been there on the MTB for ages, dragged some mates up the road at the weekend. Which way did you go? And yes, the chalk is awful at the moment, I'm riding crazy lines to try to avoid it!
From West Chiltington to Amberley, cross the river and then up to Bury.

The fun then starts....................nice ride up past the Roman Villa and then turn left.

The way back down (and where my mate Dave had a very nasty coming together with the ground) is on the South Downs way through Slindon Estate back to Amberley and we then went back up the top of the Downs, along to Chantry and whizzed down there back home.

A really good day out (albeit I managed to ruin a brand new tyre with sidewall damage frown ) but the chalk yikes

I reckon Bignor's the hardest road climb in Sussex and Surrey, close call between this and Barhatch. There are a LOT harder off road climbs though!

I rode up from near Lyons Farm on the A27 in the week, not a hard climb at all but there were chalk gulleys in the trail, had an absolute nightmare...

If that's the trail almost opposite the Charmandean centre, it's a nightmare this time of year. Boggy at the bottom to the point of impassable & chalky the rest of the way. The best one up from that side is the one just east of the Worthing golf club entrance & even that has it's moments.

I've not had a ride in a week & my best chance is tomorrow whem it's forecast to rain all day. grumpy

We went up the tarmac road rather than trying to cycle up wet damp slippery chalk. I'm sure currently it would be impossible to get up via the chalk route - it's bad enough trying to get down it!

The Mrs.is walking 20 miles on the downs tomorrow with her mates, better tell her to take a coat then!

Yes - Charmandean Lane! Views no good either, too deep to see anything.
Was thinking of doing the CX Create Crossbones ride tomorrow from Patcham. But there is so much rain forecast I've wimped out. Might even swerve the road ride on Sunday...

Blowing a gale out there today & muddy as anything. I guess the Steyning & Storrington lot didn't fancy it much wink

A club ride to Aston Pottery for two slices of cake and two drinks. I'm a greedy bd. Also an example of why mudguards are useful in the winter.

Could face the wind on a regular ride, plus my road bike was annoying me with niggling gear issues. So I went mud plugging on the CX. One of the most enjoyable rides I have had recently.

This gets me every time I pass it, more so today.

Don't often go through the MTB area, too chicken to do these jumps, although I doubt my ancient hardtail is up to it either.
Heading down to the Hidden Valley, beautiful spot I've only found recently.

I'm usually a bit disappointed with my phone pics, but this actually captured the scene

Fallen pine needles at Cannock Chase by Lewis Craik, on Flickr

Had what started out as a good ride at Cannock Chase yesterday, until I took a tumble on the "Harry" rockgarden, for those of you that know it. I tweaked my knee, aggravating an old injury. I tried to ride it off, but my knee didn't feel at all stable, especially on the rough stuff. Typically I was at the furthest point from the car park and almost at the top of the hill. So I ended up taking the fireroad back down and riding gently back to the car.

I was fine driving home, but my knee really hurt when I tried getting out of the car, and is even worse today. What I have learned though is that even a crappy day on the mountain bike was still lots of fun!

Not my best day. Result of a lack of paying attention on the last track of the day in the rain on my 5 week old Yeti ASRC..... (which I bought to replace the 2014 Epic on which I put a rock through the downtube.....)

Crash replacement front triangle on order

Front triangle of my ASR5 is aluminium and is well dented - happy to not go carbon, but they do look good!! Hope replacement works out well

Anyway, dropped the car off for a service and rode home....

Cannock is fun anytime, even if it’s been snowing.

Out in SF at the moment. Managed to find a place that hired road bikes. Happy days!
More pics please

I was also over there last week. Unfortunately I didn't find a place which rented road bikes, so I ended up paying $18 for by far the worst thing I have ever ridden. It made a Boris Bike seem like a P5X.

It was still one of the best rides I've ever done, though. Fabulous feeling to ride over the Golden Gate Bridge. And while I was pedalling back, a Red Bull F1 car screamed past me in the opposite direction, hotly pursued by a helicopter...

Thats such a shame frown

I recently got a rockguardz frame protector for my bike. If something small happens it may be able to protect the frame. Being shaped i think they are a bit stronger than they look like they should be.

If it were me i would be removing those bolts and leaving them out, or if they are needed using some very shallow domed ones so they didnt catch on anything.

Bit of a mare earlier this week, 30 miles in and 15 miles from home when.........BANG and off flew my pedal frown

Had it fixed in seconds once back at base and no major damage, just a loose bolt.

Much better ride today, if not a lot colder and a bit muddier smile
