I only had one opportunity to ride this week (today) and my planned 50 miles was cut short by a derailleur issue! Rear derailleur lost all tension so I only managed 22 miles. New one on the way but no chance to ride again until next Sunday at the earliest.

After a 700 mile June, July is set to be very poor!

Went out early yesterday morning aiming to be back before it got too hot - I found that even at 8am it was hot enough for me to get a serious sweat on!

My breakfast. Actually nice.

We did a 200 mile ride out to Great Dun Fell yesterday - biggest climb in the UK I believe. Tough going in the heat but a phenomenal route nonetheless.

Out for a test ride on a bike on my shortlist - a Yeti SB45
Oh nice! And I’m interested in your view of it - I’ve got an SB5 on my shortlist for later this year - not sure a 29er is what I’m after but tell us what you know!
I really liked it TBH, very XC orientated and climbed and descended well. Not the lightest of bikes but felt nimble enough.
However, for the money (The one I rode was kitted out to around 6k) I would have the Cannondale Scalpel Si with the Lefty fork (https://www.evanscycles.com/cannondale-scalpel-si-hi-mod-1-2018-mountain-bike-EV284409)
It was so much lighter and more nimble than the Yeti, climbed like a banshee and felt incredibly light and agile to ride. That was so good I took it out for another hour the next day just to make sure 😊

200 miles including GDF is some going - do you have a Strava link?

A tough day for sure! I did the route solo last year as part of my preparation for London-Edinburgh-London. This year I did it with a few people from my local club. It was nice to have some company this time.

Thanks - fits with other reviews I’ve read - whilst still a very good bike, there’s an element of ‘it’s a Yeti’ with the 4.5 - I’m still going to try a 5...biggrin

Holy cow, great ride! Would love to ride Great Dun Fell, but it is a LONG way from the south coast! My brother in law is in Manchester, I think it's way over two hours by car from him...

2nd flat in 26months. I guess I shouldn't be too disappointed.

Decided to get back into cycling, signed up for the Great North Bike Ride at the end of August, so thought I best stick some miles in!

Four back on the trail by Lewis Craik, on Flickr

After what feels like way too long, I have finally got my Orange Four back on the trail, after a full service. Suspension sent to Fox, new frame bearings etc. The only niggle left is that I cracked the clamp for the shifter as I was tightening it up - and yes, I was using a torque wrench rolleyes At least I can now justify getting an I spec compatible shifter to neaten up my bars.

If I had a pound for every time I see that view from a push bike.

Two flats in two years isn't bad but are the tyres in any way protected? If not, I would strongly recommend the Panaracer Flataway Kevlar strip. It doesn't seem to spoil the flexibility of the tyre unlike armoured tyres I've used. Not sure if there is a fat-bike version but worth investigating. I've not had a flat since i started using it... Many years now.
