A milestone reached - full PB clan on two wheels at the same time, though I’m taking the picture...

It’s a bit of a mission as the one tearing off into the distance only has one arm, and the youngest is still only four...
Great photo! smile

Hi gents, just thought I'd ask as you've both just put photos of cannock up...

I'm heading out for a ride tomorrow and I'm torn between heading out sheffield/peaks way or down to cannock chase (never been before). Reasonably competent, unfit but looking to tire myself out. Is it worth heading down to cannock having never been before?
I am probably a bit late, but I'll echo what Paraicj said. It is the best trail riding near me, but the Peaks are fun. You can have a decent ride there, doing a big loop, so it is easy in that respect.

Where can I get a "Zorst" like the youngest one in the middle has on their bike? I reckon it'd be better than a bell for bridleways and shared paths, and might just annoy one or two riders who take themselves a little too seriously on the local trails...

wink

Edit:

Found one! Halfords, and Smyths toys for around £15. Halfords also have a "police" light and siren for £10. I might go on a spending spree and make a proper ass of myself out on the trails...

There's a lad with that siren on the school run we see sometimes. Keeps his finger on it permanently, man it's irritating!

Thanks!

For those of you with nippers getting towards big bikes, the one on the right is just gone 11, but she’s already riding an 18” Giant hardtail. Went from a bike with 24” wheels straight to that...

Great photo, what a brilliant day out!

We hired bikes and did a circuit of Central Park over Christmas - brilliant fun yes

My youngest son is always quite keen, my daughter not so much but she did it!

Happy days yes

Well in that case, I have great news for you! I plan on moving to Bournemouth soon, so I'll only be a short ride up the B3347 away! I'll make sure to regularly nip up to Ringworm to explore the local trails with my 'Zorst' and siren maxxed out!!!

Nee-Naw-Nee-Naw!

Cannock is a good place to have a spin around. The Follow the Dog trail is about 10km of solid easy-ish Red trail (light red?), while the Monkey trail adds 9 more km of more technical difficult Red trail riding to make a figure-8 style lap of almost 20k.

If you're feeling confident a full lap is a good leg work-out, no huge hills but a lot of shortish tough inclines. Or 2 laps of the Dog if you're not feeling massively confident on your first ride back.

I like it because it's less than an hour from Birmingham where I live. There are better rides in the Peaks no doubt, but it has a cafe, Some nice fun descents and is all clearly marked to make for a stress-free day. It'll not feel as wild as even the South Peaks, but the scenery is alright!
Thanks very much for the insight. A friend wanted to join last minute so we did indeed go to cannock as they had hire bIves which he needed. Only did follow the dog as he was shattered but it was very much worth the trip, the last 3rd of follow the dog was ace in particular!

52km scoot through National Park before work - great way to start a Friday. I know those in the UK won’t care but it was roasting already at 0600 when I was halfway up to the top of the park - not always as much fun as you think... Actually, scratch that - it is! biggrin

And one from Monday, before work...

You can cycle for four hours round Yas Marina with bikes provided, for free!
theres generally days you can ride around tracks in the UK. I know for sure that Brands hatch have a contract with ( I think it is) Sevenoaks riding club that dates back donkeys that they have to hold a road Bike race once a year

I am cycling more thanks to an eMTB. I still get out on my road bike and MTB hardtail but my road racing days are long over and while I like to get out often, my 'suffering' is more at the Gym 4x a week nowadays and not when cycling so much apart from brief sections to save a damaged knee on the steepest hills. That said, my best friend is a Cycling Coach and it is a decent workout still with his programme!

Would like to try Braands one day, I imagine the elevation changes make it one of the better tracks for bikes? I've done 50 mile around Goodwood a couple of times, and whilst I love everything about the history and atmosphere of the place, it is hard place to ride 21 laps! After about 6 your brain just switches off...

Mallory Park seem to be pushing cycling/triathlons as much as motor sport.

Have to say I'm very jealous of the pics you post.
Got my missus out a couple of times though shes very much a fair weather non bumpy type rider.
Also, I hope missus pb doesn't mind me saying so but as a pher I feel it's my duty to point out she looks damned good from behind.... paperbag

“MBR Cilcain Short” route near Mold in N Wales, about 15 mins from home....

Pretty cold at the top (1300ft) and pretty slippery on the descents, would be a great route in the dry.

Nice day for a blast round the hills near me. Struggling a bit with a sore throat so tried to avoid the steep climbs!
