Nice run out today over the Ridgeway again, although still finding some decent byways and bridleways. Didnt quite make 50 miles today , as wind was in my face for a lot of the higher ground riding. Found a 3 mile descent , which I nearly stacked into a rut, at one point, as the bike went a bit sideways. I gave out a girlie squeak and it somehow straightened up
Found a farmer had chained his gate shut and leaving no option but to clamber over today. Map said it was a bridleway and the sign pointing down it was missing the blue arrow and was just a green metal plate. Another farmer made life awkward with chains wrapped around the gate , post and barbed fence , which all three gates on his land , the chains were about 6 ft long . They can be a miserable lot, even with the right to pass through.
Also thought I had seen everything , but was not the case today , as had a naked rambler on the ridge. I was thinking whether to put my gillet on as chilly at the time !!
Found this also up there and one for Yellowjack to fill us in on the incident.
Glad I went on the road today then!! Three mile descent, is that the one down to east Ilsley parallel to the a34?Found a farmer had chained his gate shut and leaving no option but to clamber over today. Loads of single track around the ridgeway there! The memorial is a few miles from my house so know it well. There's a nice single track descent it you go towards the a34 and head right (north) before you come.to it. Called hawthorns on strava!

I carried on past the infamous Scutchamers Knob , then took the next descent down, passed some old barns on the right and down to the road at Lands End ( watch the bend on the gravel at the end, near the house, as nearly lost it there also !). Then straight over onto the Old St track , which went up for a while and followed that down to North Heath. Thats where I got some decent speed up. I rode up it last week, but not to get to the Ridgeway and didnt think it was downhill .
There's two descents that take you down to bottom of lands end, the one you took and a grass one which is even longer but shallower. I've had a good couple of night descents down there, and once being followed by a chinook doing training flights!ukbabz said:

Can't help with that one, sorry. At least not beyond telling you what Google probably already did - his great grandfather was the !st Duke Of Westminster, and his dad was a decorated WW1 pilot in the RFC and later the RAF, with a Military Cross and Bar for his exploits against enemy aircraft.Found a farmer had chained his gate shut and leaving no option but to clamber over today. Grosvenor family graves at St Mary's Church, Eccleston: Hugh Frederick (1927–1947), his mother Doris (1902–1975) and his father Robin (1895–1953), a grandson of the 1st Duke of Westminster
First wet ride since returning to cycling. Had a bit of an “off”. Slid on the marble / granite quayside paving. Knobbly tyres & a 90 degree turn didn’t help.
Had to straighten the handle bars (good job I carry a basic tool kit) & my bar ends, saddle & helmet got grazed.
Nice graze on my thigh too & a corking lump on my shin! Ouch but got some miles in

Glad you are ok, if a little battered. Do check your lid for any signs of stress cracks. Its what they do, to protect your bonce . Glad you are sensible in wearing a lid, as its those kind of incidents you cant always see.Had to straighten the handle bars (good job I carry a basic tool kit) & my bar ends, saddle & helmet got grazed.

Thanks. I’ll have a very good look at it tomorrow. I always wear one. Too many crashes in my youth & late 20s when road & mountain biking, I’m 50 now so even more sensible. The lump has subsided but my left wrist & forearm hurts now. Glad I was wearing decent gloves too.

The weather looked a lot better today than it has been of late.
So I headed for Ringwood via the New Forest
Furzley was looking nice today
I stopped at the Velo Cafe in Ringwood for coffee and cake.
Then returned home via Brockenhurst.
It was nice to not have to fight 60 mph crosswinds.

Usual Surrey Hills for me, fitness is improving steadily after lockdown. Can now make it to the end of most trails at pitch without gassing out. Unbelievable how bad its got in 3 months really.
Spent the weekend faffing with the new suspension getting it to feel nice and have the rear working with the front. Turned out good but more pissing about to come.
Also swapping out the DFH tires as they are like velcro.
