Not sure if these have been mentioned but I wear winter boots which are not only totally waterproof but keep my feet really warm and I only wear ‘normal’ socks.

No probs. I think I’ll get my Northwaves done next year. A few guys on the emtb forum have had their boots done and they look good - see photos. I can’t believe no bike shoe manufacturer does a proper flat pedal winter boot though.

Just under 20 miles today, didn't anticipate the sleet/wind chill. Was glad to get home to a hot cup of tea!!

One of the things I like about living where I do is that within an easy hours ride I can be in the bushland and at the ocean beach. Like this morning...

Oxford Falls...

Curl Curl Beach...

A good sign. by Ben, on Flickr

Good day out yesterday, riding some new trails around Queenstown. A bit wet and mucky in places but you get that sometimes!

Less than 2hrs drive away for me, I should really ride there more often! After a rainy morning we did some laps at 7 Mile and then a run down from Coronet.

The photo above is on a brand new trail at Coronet which they only finished about a month ago, its still a bit soft and bedding in but brilliant laugh-out-loud fun. https://www.trailforks.com/trails/hot-rod-343814/

Someones video here (riding it better than me hehe ) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhZ5eO_ISUU

That looks like fun! I remember riding 7 Mile last time I was there, good fun for such a short twisty track. The bloke in the bike hire shop had given me the tip to take the road to ride in at the southern end, away from Queenstown, and then ride out along the northern end - was good advice. Also had a go on the downhill trails, but having to hire a full-on downhill bike didn't help me much - I'd have been much faster on a bike with geometry to which I was used, which at the time was a 150/125 FS bike - but worth it for the laughs. Highly recommended to everyone!

Another tiling ride, another stint on the A31, to get to a path that's only accessible from that road. Started at the "first roundabout from London". Far more busy than two weeks ago.

Then it turned out the path was flooded, so another stint!

With the big bad trunk road out of the way, time for the best surfaced bridleway I've encountered for quite some time.

Some excellent views at the end:

Really st conditions today around Pitch hill. Drivetrain sounded awful

Hanging up the fast rolling tires for the better weather in favor of some more grippy rubber

This area was back-burned a few weeks ago, and new growth showing through, but its remarkable how long that smell hangs around - it still smells like burnt wood....

Jealous... It would take an atom bomb to burn the woods around us at the moment. We've not had 3 consecutive dry days in about 4 months.

I grew up cycling around Pitch/Holmbury hill and loved the trials there. I'm going back over Christmas this year and would love to revisit, but it's been a good decade since I last hit the woods in anger! I remember Barry Knows Best, Yoghurt Pots (known as the bombholes in my day) and a nice run down towards Holmbury (Telegraph Poles?). Are they still there? Any other routes worth checking? smile

Years ago there were a load of 'north-shore' style ladders hidden somewhere up Pitch Hill, but I doubt they've survived this long.

I can vaguely remember the locations of most of them, but not necessarily how to piece them together without a whole lot of unnecessary climbing hehe
