Out of interest, how long are your commutes?

I'm ~7 miles from the office, or at least the route I drive is, so it's ideal for me to cycle.

I've bought a cyclocross bike as I'm likely to stick to using the canals to get to work, however I need to get some mud-guards and then I should be good to go.

I'm 8.7 miles if I take the most direct route, but when the weather is nice, I rarely do.

Your approach is very sensible (CX + guards) and very doable, especially if you have access to a shower.

I wish I had rear panniers too, so I could put stuff on the top (not sides) to save me carrying a rucksack. But I take a week of stuff at a time, so it's not too much of a chore.

Mine's about 18 miles, I'll do it two or three times a week depending on how fit I'm feeling.

Mine is 27 miles each way, last year I did it a couple of times a week in the summer. I hung up my helmet in mid September when I had a crash which nearly killed the bike.

In November I started commuting again because the Southern Rail crisis made life a misery. Cutting it down to about 11 miles by getting the train part way which means I can manage it 5 days a week, if the trains run (can drive that bit when it's not). I cycle the inner London part which is well lit I can do it all year round. My office move seems to have put it up again to about 14 miles.

11.5 miles each way. Mostly rural, small bit of city towards the end.
The rural bit means there's a significant chunk that can be quite dark with some interesting bends, so whether I cycle is determined largely by daylight hours. Broadly it's doable from end of Feb to early Oct. Currently aiming to average four days a week during that period, given that I'm not always at the same site...

I do 2.5 miles to the station, then 4.5 - 5 miles from station to office. I try to do it all week except I have kids and they want dropping off on the way to school so Friday it may be easier to go via car or work at home!

Haven't updated this for ages. I cycled 13 weeks everyday leading up to Christmas, then the first 2 weeks of Jan, by which time it got too cold and wet (So I bought a Rover V8 to drive!)

I drove until early March, back on the bike since then. I was finding it pretty tough in Jan.

I now think that in a future winter with better kit I could push on through.

Mine is 14 miles each way, edge of London to West End. Do it pretty much everyday.

I have a lovely 5km each way meaning I never have to work hard. It does include 4 big roundabouts though, so I can't just doze my way to work.

Puncture this morning, nice start to the day.

Only 3.5 miles each way for me, I like to think I will take a longer route, but come the morning I just wanna get to work and get on with my day.

Mine is 10.5 miles each way. Was doing it 4/5 times a week until this winter, but have dropped down to 3/4 now, just not been enjoying it so much this year for some reason.

Currently looking at a new house which will increase my ride to 15.5 miles each way. I think its realistic to do this 2/3 times a week, maybe 4. Its not the distance, but the time. That goes from 40mins each way to 1hr.

Didn't make it to work today ... Did make it to A&E though.

Little white car behind me as I stopped at a roundabout, decided to go whilst I was there. Not sure what happened, I saw the sky and the road, someone else saw me flying!

Not seen my bike yet, luckily I was on the big boys bike as I don't think my brompton would have protected me. Luckily it was a small car too.

My neck hurts now, otherwise I am OK. I was stressed, though, and (since my stroke) I can't speak when stressed or tired - tried to explain but couldn't get any words out!

Be careful out there guys!

Mines 12miles, or a shorter 8 mile route, but doesn't seem worth the kit and showering for that, so do the 12. Have a regular 16miler as well, but like said before , it's the time and then the fact I'm not often I think he same place.

So if I'm lucky at the moment I get 3 rides. Rare to even have the chance at 5.

Sorry to hear of that "incident", I hope you make a quick recovery. (Also as a fellow Brompton-er, I'm glad it wasn't damaged.)

I've got a 5 mile trek to/from work on some fairly sketchy B roads, but it's mostly trouble free and fairly enjoyable. About to move house and will become a 14 mile journey across the New Forest, which I may or may not attempt to do regularly...

Milford on Sea to Lymington and back. Takes me 20-23 minutes.

Moving to Ringwood - should be a 1hr15 ride each way...

Birmingham was warm this morning, although still a bit breezy. Drivers seemed a bit dozy after the BH weekend, had 3 separate cars in the wrong lanes at roundabouts, but nothing more than a swerve needed in either case. Going through 10 traffic-heavy roundabouts a day can be fun.

Just over 9 miles each way from North West London to the City and back.

Due to a job change & sabbatical I haven't done the bike commute at all this year but recce'd the route yesterday.

Now I just have to work out options for storing my stuff and I'll be back in the saddle.

Can't wait, been missing it badly.

Nearly ran over a kid who decided a bicycle doesn't count as something to look out for on the roads this morning. I really don't understand what some people think counts as a hazard these days...
