Did the commute by 8 speed Alfine full rigid steel 29er today. Things a tank, knackering after a week end of fun riding round trip was 53km, 290m climbing.

Good work.

Because I use a choice of 3 bikes, I'd need to spend a bit of time working it out, but that's a top effort. Think of all the fuel you've saved. (Then tell the missus, and treat yourself to something nice from Rapha / Castelli / Brand of choice.)

Well, exactly. If I commute for 50% of the working year by bike, it effectively doubles the commuting efficiency of my car... Gets me up to 44 mpg, which is pretty much contributing to the environment rather than destroying it!

I was back on the bike yesterday evening for the first time in a week after doing a bit of work on my car at work and then heading up to Newcastle for my friends stag do at the weekend.

Was lovely weather and this morning I was greeted by the up most hipster couple jumping reds. When I overtook them and told them to stop jumping reds the lady gave me some sort of hand sign in the air with her hands clenched, almost sarcastically cheering what i said. C**t

Don't waste your effort on them. They probably voted for Corbyn, so any attempts at logic will be wasted on their tiny, tiny IQ's! laugh

Yesterday, rode to work for the first time in a while 20miles each way. Bloody hell I was hot/sweaty in the evening when I got home! Plan is to work up to 3+ times a week.

Fastest commute to work for a while for me this morning. Still got caught out by a few sets of lights and my legs still feel a bit empty from Dartmoor at the weekend. Shaping up nicely ahead of Revolve24 this year though.

New job. New commute.

Was doing 6 miles, now only 3.5.

Epic down hill then a flat ride along the river. Big climb home. Three routes, one of which is right across fields.

Doing every day.

- an I didn't cycle to work today post.

First day I've gone into work without using my bike for a while, just so I can run the JPM Chase Challenge and have a drink after.
Recently, I've been driving 14 miles, parking up near Purley then cycling the last 14 miles.

I'm quite miserable having spent £29.30 on a train ticket, just for one day and watched the cyclists flying past. With a bit of luck I'll squeeze a bike into the car on a trip to Yorkshire at the weekend and get a little ride in up there.

16.5 miles is a fair commute. How often you ride in?

Gave you a follow on Strava

Depends on the time of year and availability of lifts, but normally ride between 3 and 5 days a week. The more you do it, the easier it gets!

Shopping trip was a success. Looking forward to the shakedown commute on Monday.

Wasn't feeling it this morning but my buddy gave me a wise tip of preparing everything the night before and it worked. Need to be doing this 3 times a week really but given I'm starting from scratch (doing nothing only a couple of months ago) I'm taking it easy.

It's fun though and I'm loving the new bike which makes it a lot easier

Preparation is key. yes

What kind of bike are you riding? The tow path all the way from Kingston to Kew Bridge is lots of fun, and will make a pleasant change. I used to love doing bombing runs down it at night in the winter. A 29er with road-ish / commuter-ish tyres pumped well up and a decent light made an awesome weapon along it. hehe

Well done on getting started!

Pumped up my back tyre last night, nearly to the red section on the pump, much better this morning.

Getting rolling resistance low when you weigh 18 stone isn't so easy.

To be honest, I'm not feeling the love for riding to work, its just a chore, I do it as I'm office based and need the exercise.

I'd much rather jump in my little van and take the 5 mins to get here, since moving to IOW there's so little traffic that driving is more attractive.

Only managed it once last week (work commitments) and will only manage it once today (ditto).

My trainer has noticed the increase in cycling as my hammies, glutes and calves have been tightening right up again.

Cue loads of stretching...

2 punctures on the way in this morning. #grump

Was pretty wet following all the overnight rain. Changed the first one and got pretty pissed off when the second one happened half a mile later so walked up to the nearest station and jumped on the train instead.

Ran into my local Evans and bought some Continental 4 seasons and some new inners as I fecking hate changing tyres, to the point where I'll put up with slower / louder tyres instead of frequent changing and to be honest who'm I kidding, I'm so fat and slow I probably won't notice any material difference anyway!

It was also slippy as feck today so don't mind a bit of extra grip. nearly binned it coming off a corner which woke me up!

New tyres on yesterday. I did notice them as being harder to get along the road but it's all good as at least I was out on the road again, even if I stopped twice after going close to broken glass just to make sure nothing was stuck in the tyres #paranoid

My achilles was giving me loads of grief at end of last week.

My sports injury trainer reminded on Friday that I had to continue doing my physio exercises. All of them.

I realised that I'd dwindled to just the heel drops. Pulled out the paperwork and realised I need to do heel drops + fasica rolls + tendon massages.

And maybe calf rolls. And stretches.

It's feeling better today, back on the bike tomorrow.

Had a good ride in today although I've no idea how fast it was as Strava has gone haywire.

I deleted and re-installed it a couple of times last week to no avail.

Changed from Three to EE over the weekend but still no joy.

Deleted it and re-installed it again but still not working.

Must be my handset?

Not allowed to exercise for another month, cycling steadily doesn't count as exercise, right?

Rode in with a neighbour this morning. Was nice to have a bit of company.

Apparently there are full on storms forecasted for this afternoon, which is worrying.
