Easily had the worst commute in three years this morning!

Left the house a little early this morning and though I'd have a nice relaxing ride into work...

Had a guy nearly rear end me at the bottom of The Village because he was racing the lights, he then punishment passed me in his temper on Oundle Road.

I received a close pass and got cut up at the Queensgate round about by some woman in a Zafira before another woman fully ignored my presence at the Rowing lake round about. She looked strait through me as we met at her drivers window - she even flicked me the 'V's for my troubles!!!

Another close pass along Bretton way from White Van Man towing a digger was followed by being cut up at the round about into my work's road by some tt in a stbox hatch back...

WTAF?! Honestly, if every day was like this I can see why people where helmet cams!!!

It must be something in the air?! I had two people simply drive at me on the wrong side of the road both on the way home and then again when I went out in the car to get dinner!!!

We're due thunder storms, maybe the static aggravates people's driving chimp?! The bit that really aggravates me is the incredulous look you get where they either look through you like you're invisible or like you're the guilty party for getting in their way...

I wouldn't let it get to me too much but it's not like I'm a cycling ninja! Today's kit consisted of a white helmet, a jersey covered in randomly angled yellow and black trapezoids, black and yellow gloves and blue, white and black shorts. All while riding a bright green bike sporting two lights on the rear, one steady, one flashing and a pulsing Cateye Volt 700 on the front!

Yup, close passes galore despite my Moonshield on the back that usually gets me plenty of space. Then I drove through Millfield rofl

Another one here who had a real crap time of it as of late. Took a few days off as I was starting to react to the bad driving. Monday's commute home was dreadful. Close passes, U-turning taxi, people overtaking and then braking or almost left hooking me. Almost forgot the chav in an Astra who overtook as I was waiting at a mini roundabout as there was a car to my right - I was positioned in the middle of the lane so he had to use the wrong side of the road to do so. Caught him back up in traffic within 30 seconds too.

Not sure if it's the heat causing the impatience or if the heat is increasing the number of cyclists resulting in increased frustration. Either way I'm going to commute by bike a bit less for a bit.

Great ride in this morning on my Brompton, as I have an off-site and dinner tonight, so want to be able to get home easily.

Overtook a roadie up a small hill with a cheery "Morning". It was very muggy through. Last night's storms have not cleared the air much.

Decided to address my anxiety about riding in the rain after all my punctures of last week. I did a bike maintenance course on Tuesday evening so felt better equipped to deal with any punctures if they happened and also have the Conti 4 seasons on so really needed to man up. Added extra pressure into them as think they were a little under-inflated on Monday and was back up to speed again \o/

I say "up to speed", I could easily have been the guy passed by the Brompton per the above biggrin

Nah, he wasn't a dashing ginger fellow from your neck of the woods. I think it might have been Geraint Thomas on a recovery ride. wink

This morning I was back on the roadie, but with a bit of a hangover from last nights festivities. Chasing another roadie up the hill from home was ill-advised. I think he was doing hill sprint training as he took off like a scalded whippet when I got close to him.

I am more of a diesel, and did get back to him, but couldn't even remotely match that kind of acceleration. Not even on a good day.

Just ticked over the 1,500 commuter mile mark this morning.

No food at home at all, so breakfast was a Costa and Rocky Road in the office (there may have been an element of 'hit 1,500, and didn't turn into a total wuss because of the rain, I deserve something bad for me' going on)

Cycled on Tuesday, swam 1K yesterday and cycled in again today.

Felt tired due to the last three days' exercise + the muggy night times.

And it was very muggy this morning. And I had a head wind. And now it's pissing down. And I have zero weather protection.

Tomorrow it's the gym.

(and getting a set of 18's fitted to the car)

Bloody rain. Birmingham was dreary this morning, but traffic wasn't too heavy, so not the worst ride in. Of course it has stopped raining now!

Last night I cleaned and sorted out my decent bike ready for going away to the Nurburgring next week.

This morning I thought I'd take it to work to make sure there are no clicks or creaks that would bug me over the 24hr race.

It is currently chucking down with rain! (and my bottom bracket was creaking a bit)

I managed to beat the rain this morning, it arrived as I was getting changed. Very well timed lol.

Also got a drenching in Brum this morning, emergency boxers called upon, not often that happens!

Seriously considering starting to cycle to work.

To avoid a horrendous trip into and out the other side of Wolverhampton to the i54 site, I would be looking at a pure Staffordshire Railway Walk and Canal route for 11 miles each way.

Would mean Zero fighting with traffic but i'm sure there would be a number of other downsides

There are a few logistical hurdles to overcome, but other than that I can honestly say that there are no downsides to riding to work.

Better fitness, improved quality of life, lower mental stress, smaller carbon footprint, lower transport costs... it all points in the favour of riding to work! Do it.

11 miles is a good distance as well for actual cycling vs faffing around at each end with your stuff.
