Those who've updated to the Bolt V2, is the colour screen a good upgrade?

The reason I ask is that I often find the Bolt screen a touch too small. I wear corrective glasses but the prescription is not very strong so I wear normal non prescription glasses when cycling. I was considering getting the Roam for the slightly bigger screen, but reviews of the new Bolt all compliment the clarity of the new screen.

New Shimano M520 spd pedals.

The originals were beginning to creak and felt like they needed a service. Took them apart and wondered how on earth I was going to get the bearing preload correct with the cup nut needing a VERY thin wall socket to fit in the pedal body.

Cleaned everything off and saw that the bearing surface was ruined.

So new pedals it is then. Just worked out that particular pair was 20+ years old!

I've bought a pair of these:

Cheap cycling glasses. Seem to be excellent VFM, If you buy them, make sure you adjust the nose bridge to fit you, can be very uncomfortable until it's right. I'm happy with mine.

If anyone is keeping track, I tried the Oakley helmet too, and it was indeed a fraction too small. It was a better head shape than the Planet X version, but the rear was rubbing on the back of my head even when stood up in the kitchen, never mind a TT position.

They've both gone back, and I think a Giro Aerohead is the next one to try.

Have you tried bubble wrap? hehe

I share your pain. I hate helmet buying.

Bubble wrap? Like the opposite of the dimples on a golf ball, put there for aerodynamic benefit?

You want me to ride around with inverse dimples? Have you lost your mind?

hehe

Just wear your normal helmet and tape the vents when you race? Or are you buying because you need a new helmet in general?

I'm gradually building up my TT kit list. I'm a big old slow-twitch unit, and actually enjoy the TT side of things.

I'm not allowed to buy a TT specific bike until I've taken the family on a foreign holiday. (Thanks Covid for making that difficult, although I realise it has had a more significant effect on others.)

So I'm sneakily buying all the other bits in a way that the missus won't notice so much, and will use my road bike for TT-ing until I can get a dedicated bike.

The only other thing I really could use is a skinsuit with a clear pocket on the arse for the number, but that can wait a little bit, as I have a Rapha SS race suit from the Archive Store and a £45 LS Skinsuit from eBay which fits pretty well.

I was thinking about getting and aero-road helmet too, but I think I'm going to drift towards the TT world, locally for the next few years. It fits in with family time quite well, and I enjoy it.

I'm also working on finding longer range Strava segments, and going out after them too. Particularly if they're held by mates! hehe

I have an Aerohead and the fit is quite snug but the visor comes off which makes it easier, it does need a low tucked position to get the most from it. Have you thought about something like an Air Attack or Vanquish so aero but with a visor?

Being down south get in touch with No Pinz, they can fit a number pouch to your skin suit.

Definitely considered a Vanquish, will take a look at the Air Attack too. I have an Aerohead on the way, from a reputable supplier in Britain with a returns policy. (Plenty of Spanish options available, but don't fancy messing about with import charges, and difficulty returning.)

Once Covid is less of a problem, I might pop over to No Pinz and see if they can measure me and make a suit to fit properly. I can tie it in with a family trip surfing or something.

[quote=Sway]Great bit of kit (even if mixing Sram and Shimano makes my teeth itch!).

How come? To be honest it took me a while to convince myself to mix brands too smile

I have been looking for a set of brake pads for my 4-pot Tektros. They can be as expensive as £29 for a pair (I need two pairs) however most places only seem to have the sintered ones in stock. I want the ceramic ones.

Found a place called Total Bleed Solutions who had them in stock for £16 for both pairs - just turned up:

Also, I want a light for my pannier rack. Some of those I've seen are a bit clunky - too big and a bit dim. I like my Knog seat post light - it uses a COB (chips on board) which is essentially a panel LED. Knog doesn't make a pannier rack light and the one I have wouldn't fit.

But this Busch & Muller is a similar shape to the Knog and can take a wide supply voltage. In fact it can be hooked up to the front light battery with a bit of soldering. I'm quite pleased with it. Oh, over 3/4 of it is a reflector, not a light, but it's in the right place in the bike to give me a chance of being seen both in the day and night.

Out of interest, why ceramics?

I've never seen a decent review of them - but that was a couple of years ago when I last looked. I'd never heard of them before so was curious.

The only benefit seemed to be life span of the pad but they required heat to work and we're poor cold and wore the rotor much faster. Hardlyvanyvdust seemed to be another benefit IIRC.

Have they managed to get them working from cold now?
