The "what bike bits have you just bought" thread Vol 2
Discussion
Can’t quite justify new bike... but still going ahead with a load of upgrades for my current one instead. Parts just starting to arrive or in process of ordering.
To upgrade Cervélo R2. Have ordered;
- 3T Superergo Ltd Stealth carbon bar
- 3T Apto team stealth stem... mulled over carbon one but went with this instead. Plus I want to use the Barfly computer mount with them also to tidy up the bar area.
EDIT.. Ordered Cervélo carbon stem. Couldn’t resist. One stem will get returned when I see how either look.
- Zipp sl speed seatpost.
- Ultegra Di2 (r8000 series). Moving away from mechanical Ultegra 6800. Really looking forward to electric gear set up. Going to add the bar end junction to keep it tidy and fit the ant+ part so it connects to the computer also. I’m really hoping it lives up to what I’m expecting, as in more efficient gears, no rubbing on front derailleur and easy alignment.
It’s not a cheap set of upgrades, but I think the frame is more than enough for my level. Without going silly dura ace level, it makes the frame/bike as good as it can be.
Then maybe a new Cervélo S5 in a 18-24 months time. Fingers crossed.

What you doing with your old Ultegra?
Probably sit in a ‘just in case’ box and never see the light of day again!Seriously though.. might hang onto it. Not discounting option of getting a frame only come new bike time and the di2 would shift across, and old Ultegra go back on for winter/Zwift duties.
If I sell, it’s just over a year old with 3000 miles on it and kept in good condition.
Also debating changing the BB.
Run wheels manufacturing BB currently. Recommended to me at bike build for the threaded cups.
Was looking at ceramic speed, but being put off with press fit only.
Getting drawn into ceramic BB. But not sure which direction to go.
C-bear, BBInfinite, ceramic speed, enduro bb..... I don’t want to do press fit, only hear negatives about it.
Or do nothing and keep current set up.

Happy Christmas to myself. I ordered some new wheels for the Grade after someone recommended them on here. Hope 20FIVE with RS4 hubs, 32 spoke, which should be durable enough for me to use them off road. I will keep my Hunt 24-spokes for winter road use.
I also ordered some Small Knobs to go with them, which I will get fitted tubelessly. I know quite a few people who use them and seem to be pretty happy with them.
And then I thought my basket was looking a bit empty so I added another item to top it up.

Some of the deals I’ve seen on the out going S5 have been mega. Enjoy.I also ordered some Small Knobs to go with them, which I will get fitted tubelessly. I know quite a few people who use them and seem to be pretty happy with them.

Shimano BB, I had planned to upgrade to Hope, but I was doing a check the day before a trip out when I noticed the BB was gone, so had to buy whatever my LBS had in stock.
After the ride I went to change my chain as it had got to 0.75 on the chain checker, but it turns out that was too late for 11 speed, as the cassette was already gone.
I was going to swap from 11-42 SLX to 11-46 XT and fit a bigger chainring, but I didn't like the final jump from 37-46 on the XT cassette, so went for a Sunrace 11-46, which is only a 40-46 final step.

Yeah - I know it's "last year's model" but I figure that it didn't suddenly become a bad bike overnight. It's the bike I've always wanted, and to get a whole bike, for less than what the frames still sell for, felt like too good an opportunity to pass up. I paid £2600 from Sigma Sport.Usget said:

That's a steal. Enjoy the bike.I started looking at a new road bike, but it dawned on me that for the specs I wanted, the cash was better residing in the new house fund, so I resigned myself to buying just new wheels for the gravel bike and turning it into a makeshift roadie. Then I found an old thread on here about Chinese clinchers
2 days thinking and my finger slipped on these (after a bit of research)
Ooops!!! A bit frivolous for quick rides when I dont fancy going offroad, which requires thought at this time of year round here as its clay or standstone. just need 2 brake discs and a spare cassette now.

In my experience Shimano BBs are the best quality AND the cheapest. I wouldn't bother with any other brand. If you like DIY bike maintenance and chewing through money then go for FSA Gosammer Mega Exo outboard cups.

Not bought, but found dumped in town with a bust rear derailleur, flat tyres and a lot of surface rust:
One shift cable, a 9-speed chain and a refurbed Tiagra derailleur later, it’s ready and off to a neighbour who will use it for a car/bike commute.
A fun little project and it rides really well with 4 bar in the tyres!
