Bike shoes - Which ones shall i buy?

I have been using a general no frills pair (~£70) from about 2 years ago, however managed to leave them at the sportive at the weekend whilst getting into my car. They were big, comfortable and looked like clogs!
Can anyone recommend me a pair please? Ideally to buy today. I usually use them to commute and to then weekend rides with, more speed is also welcome!

If you can get to a shop to try a few pairs on then do that and go with what fits you best, there is so much variation in sizing, particularly width.
If you're ordering online then go for a few different pairs, try them on indoors and make use of the return policy within the set time.

I swear by Mavic shoes. I have them for mountain and road bikes and the less stiff/cheaper mtb shoes are the more comfortable!! Highly recommended. Can anyone recommend me a pair please? Ideally to buy today. I usually use them to commute and to then weekend rides with, more speed is also welcome!

I just bought the BT'Win 900 road shoes from Decathlon - £79.99.
I've only done two rides with them so far, but they feel really good. I think they are a great buy for the money.

I bought some very nice Fizik shoes from Planet X a few years ago for a massive discount.

Might be worth a look to see if there is anything going cheap in your size. (Beware, Planet X is the DFS of bike stores, so only pay a little attention to RRP.)
Their Bibs and Helmets have been good to me, so I would have thought at least some of the shoes will be.

I bought a size larger, to accommodate my flat, wide feet. And now it seems that the slight change means my bike is now uncomfortable. The seat seems to only have one sweet spot. Damn it! Shoes can alter your bike fit, I have 3 bikes and generally keep 3 pairs of shoes one for each bike
I find the sole height can vary quite a bit between shoes, maybe even 15mm or so, which when you have short legs like me that's a big gap, I guess you can alter the saddle each time you swap shoes
Are the cleats setup on the new shoes , like the old shoes, do you have high or low arch?
£350 is an incredible amount for shoes unless you are very confident on what you want!

Great news! Glad you didn't have to spend £700 on shoes ;-) Same here. Getting used to them and the difference is amazing. Not that comfortable but maybe down to being new but definitely performance orientated.
