Cor, that's nice mister!

I keep looking at the Endurace in the same colour.

Yes, just need to find another set of wheels now. Some disc compatible and sturdy for everyday use... any recommendations?

The ones that come with it are what I ride it with, they're fine.

Even up on the mendips where its always winter and windy? Im half tempted to get some Mavic Kysrium Discs if the weather is really bad?

With the discs though you won't be wearing out the rim surface, which will hugely help wheels in wet. Wind possibly though...they are not great in the wind.

Yes, thats one of the reasons I went for discs. I think the wind paired with fast moving traffic isnt going to be that pleasant. Ill see how I get on...

I find my Aeroad with 404s very skittish in the wind. Combination of deep rims and narrow handlebars. Also, harshest ride of any of my bikes. Always feel as though I've taken a bit of a battering after riding it.

I had an Aeroad and whilst it was a lovely bike it was a rather harsh ride and in the end my back could take no more so I got rid of it. Still look at the website several times a week as I really fancy a new MTB (29 Hardtail) and the wife wants the Ultimate CF SLX SL.

Funnily enough I've recently ordered an Ultimate slx with discs for my wife. She is small so the 3xs size with the 650b wheels really appealed.

I suppose it depends what you're used to riding. I've always ridden race bikes, Cervelo/S works etc so maybe I am used to the ride.

There again I'm only 29, so my time may come for battered body feeling

Apologies for the thread hijack, but I'm pretty much in the same position as you (were!). However I already own an Ultimate SLX (gratuitous photo opportunity), I'm just stuck between the choice of disc and non-disc version di2.

I know that I'm just being a tart as I didn't know whether to go for the Ultimate or Aeroad two years ago. I choose the Ultimate based on the fact I was unsure whether or not my poor old bones (I'm 45) would be able to handle the slightly harsher ride. Having upgraded the wheels it really is an awesome machine and I don't really need to change it, but you know, we all love shiny new things.... I love the fact my current bike is pretty light and changing to the Aeroad is going slightly heavier, am I really likely to notice the extra weight of the disc version? (I know, first world problems and all that......) smile

Cheers

I dont take much notice of all these weights and unless you are a the sharp end, racing up hills I dont see 500g makes any difference here or there.

What you have to realise is the typical person rides around with a 200g mobile phone, 100g watch, 300g saddle bag with spares, 750g Water, Snacks (if you are going a long way)....

So just take the weight penalty on the bike, take your watch off and have a poo before you go out and you'll be fine.

As for the harsh ride, I am also 29 like OKGO, so not too stiff just yet. Also the bike I ride at the moment, whilst not extreme isnt super comfy, so hopefully the Aeroad shouldnt be too bad!

Here is it...my trusty old Giant.

Be aware though that the stem isn't pointy up like yours above.

I've taken most of the spacers out of mine, and its seriously low. Even with all the spacers it was as low as my S works with a 120mm 6deg stem.

My other main bikes are R5/Venge/Tarmac/Ultimate SL. The Aeroad, with 404's, has a noticeably harsher ride than any of those.

I don't wear a watch and always go to the loo before riding!!! smile

TBH I know all of the above and I know I'm just being a tart so I earlier on I just went ahead and ordered the 8.0 Di2 disc. It's a bit of a steal in the sale so I would have been a fool not to. It was also eased by the letter from the taxman giving me back £1300. It's in stock and according to the emails I've already received I should get it next week sometime. It's going to be a slow few days....
