So in English that's about 6,500 feet in 70 miles then?

Sounds like fun!

I don't know yet, Justin. I'm in crisis at the moment. Wife works as nurse. Nurse is "on call" on Saturday and Sunday. Wife/nurse has also neglected to pass a driving test in the 30 years since she became eligible to drive. Therefore, when she is "on call", I get to be "on call" as chauffeur too.

But she does have a bicycle. So if the weather is looking OK, and I can persuade her to sign off on a leave pass, then I might well be up for this. A Strava club to which I belong is having an elevation based in-club competition this week so a 'Hill Smash' would be ideal for me to round the week off with a flourish.

Negotiations are ongoing at the moment. I shall keep trying...

I'm going to have to duck out - family stuff means I would have to be home by midday. I did think about going up early and doing half of the route before meeting you guys but I'd still only have an hour of the social side before having to head back.

I have accepted the invite via Strava.

At a wedding (wife relation) Friday, then my mates 40th Saturday and then plenty of other stuff next week, getting the whole normal permit issuer problems from the wife.

What pace are we thinking for this ride? 4-5hrs? I think it will be an all day event!

YJ if you get the nod I can still drive from Fleet assuming either of us managing to blag a pass.

It took me 5hrs moving time roughly, 6 in total. We can anticipate that the herding of cats will extend this when there are a few of us out.

I'm doing some high quality hoping that the weather forecast will develop less rain as we get nearer the the day.

I just spent too much money on a waterproof jacket. So it's guaranteed not to rain ever again.

You're all welcome.

Unless the LBS pull off a miracle I won't be making it on Sunday. I'll be riding that route at some point though.

Thanks for the offer, but given the forecast here for Sunday it's looking even less likely that my wife will want to be reliant on her bicycle in the event of a call-in at work. I'm still trying to persuade her, but it's not looking too promising at the moment...

The Triban was stolen a while back.

I've just seen the weather forecast for Sunday and was feeling better at missing out. Then I saw Justin's offer (cheers buddy!) and have lost my excuse for ducking out. I'm not usually a fair weather cyclist but I've done so much riding in foul weather this year I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm sick of it. A stop-start ride on that course in wet and windy conditions just doesn't appeal at the moment. Sorry gents. Another (drier) time.

I am piking out on the basis of having to leave at 9am, mill around until 10:30 and then not getting back to the car until probably 4-4:30. Getting back home at almost 6pm is too long on the km/hr ratio.

Will probably entertain myself on the Farnborough Flyer which I have just found out about an that is a 20min cycle to the start and kicks of at 8:30am!

I am sure you will all have a good time!

I'm coming but will be wanting to be finished by 3PM (a blatt down the A25 seems to be a quick route back if I need to hop off), need to be at work by 4
