Put a deposit down on a Trek Emonda SL5 today, going to have a full bike fitting tomorrow, then subject to still being as comfortable as the first time I sat on it I will finalise the deal. The price was down from £1900 to £1500 and they have offered a few sweeteners.

First thoughts are how light the bike is 7.6 kilos. I have read quite a lot of reviews and all seem positive. I know most of the gearing is 105 and I could buy a cheaper bike with Ultegra but the frame on those will be no where near as good as the Trek, which if I do upgrade in the future I can go Ultegra

Any comments guys negative or positive.

I bought an Emonda SL 6 in March 2015.

I'm now just ten miles short of 9,000 miles on it, and I can't find a bad word to say about it. Lovely bikes. I'm not sure I "fly along" on it really, but that's no fault of the bike. I've done a dozen or more 100 milers on it in the last 2½ years, and it's a pretty comfortable place to perch. I've not needed to change or upgrade a single thing aside from the usual chains/cassettes/brake pads/tyres as they've worn out. Original wheels, saddle, etc are still on it and doing sterling service.

I seriously doubt that you'll regret buying it.

My original (and quite long-winded) "What bike?" thread where I bought the Emonda in the end... https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Hi I bought a trek emonda SLR early this year , really great bike love it done quite a few miles on it now , not as many as Yellowjack ! All I have done is change the tyres to 25c continentals, I could not get on at all with the bontrager R4's that the bike came with . I may have to change the saddle at some point but it's been ok up to 80km so far . I originally wanted a canyon but got talked into buying a trek , never looked back . Enjoy . Here's a pic any excuse

Love a good excuse to show off the SL5! smile

I adore mine, especially the colour, the 105 group set has just been awesome. By all accounts there's less than 300g between 105 and Ultegra with no real difference in performance!

Still looks better in red... tongue out

150+ miles on mine yesterday! Garmin died before I got home though, and didn't catch the last 8 miles or so...

I think you've made a very good purchase there, 'hilly10'. I'd second the recommendation to swap to 25mm Continental tyres. I swap between GP 4000 SII and GP 4Seasons. But having said that I waited until I'd worn the Bontrager original tyres out first.

Nice one, glad you enjoyed it.

I did 50 miles on Sat on Nelsons Tour de Test Valley Sportive 2hrs 35mins. The bike was peerless and I think I came in first ( not that it's a race ). Would have got the fastest of all time since the event started in 2012 but the feed station had the best brownies!

I do like Emonda's ... have been racing on my SLR mostly this season and has felt spot on. I didn't imagine I'd spend more than 2-3 hours riding it each time as I bought it for that sole purpose but had a 120-odd mile ride up into the Moors in summer and came back without requiring a visit to the chiropractor. In actual fact, I've become more flexible since I've been riding the bike.

My Mrs has the womens SL6, and wheels apart, its a really great bike.

That looks the dogs.

Going to invest in some new wheels for the Spring and Summer, keep the ones that came with the bike just for the Winter.
