Lots of discussion about which road bikes are best.

So which brand did you or would you choose as your go to road bike?

I've kept it mainstream as there were a limited number of slots (sorry if you were Ribble, Plant X, Pinarello, Colnago etc)

You may be thinking Endurance, Lightweight Climber, Aero or TT when picking your brand.

I like Genesis. Just think they're well thought out and ride great, with something for most budgets. I also like the way they look whereas I';m pretty indifferent to the stuff from the really big brands.

I ride a Specialized though, but it was cheap and I can't bring myself to replace it.

My Bianchi does everything I need and want, super light and super comfy, basically it's a better bike than I am a rider. It's got that Italian Mojo thing especially with the Campagnolo kit that other brands no matter how good they make their bikes just don't seem to have.

Bianchi has always been my ‘go to’ choice. The XR4 is a superb frameset, if it’s paired up with a decent Italian Groupset and finishing kit, it’s a great bike. I wouldn’t build one up with fishing tackle, that’s sacrilege.

Beacon for me..... most readers will say “ whoooooo” and that’s why.

The geometry works for me choice of frames, sort of British and unknown, 10,000 (ish) miles in the last 18months.

You could always use bits from that company with a longer history of making bicycle parts than Campagnolo...

I have a trek, a giant, and a cannondale.

I picked based on what I wanted from each bike, not what make it is, why would you do that?

To buy now? I'd go with 'keirik' here, and say that "brand" wouldn't matter as much as the fit of a particular bike, and how it feels to ride.

To choose which of my bikes to ride? What's the weather like? Will I need mudguards? Is there a chance of a gravel detour? Which one isn't broken in some way this week? All are important questions really, but often trumped by "what mood am I in right now?"

Options for me range from a lightweight, modern carbon fibre Trek, to a mid 90s heavy, low tech CroMo steel Falcon. I don't think any two of my bikes are particularly similar, as there'd be no real point (imho) in owning two very similar bikes.

My favourite early this year (up until i broke my leg) was a Cannondale Backroads. A hybrid, originally meant as a flat-bar bike with Cannondale's trademarked 'HeadShok' suspension in the headset. It was converted to drop bars by a former owner and fills the gap between road and MTB nicely. The cheapest bike I own, even after spending a couple of hundred £s smartening it up, but it is a nice ride, and because it's neither a road, nor a true MTB, I feel no pressure to hack at Strava segments on it, so I can relax and enjoy the ride...

eta: Oh, and I voted for Trek in the survey thingy. Simply because I wasn't a fan of theirs until I was press-ganged into test riding my Emonda by a bike shop. I loved it so much I bought it, and I love the look of the Trek Segafredo bikes at the moment, so if I was pressed for time and had to look for a new bike I'd start my search there...

First was a Felt second a Focus which is proving to be a very capable bike and you don’t see many others around which is nice.

I started out on MTB's and ended up with a Giant 29'er. When I started road riding 3 years ago I just went along to the LBS who stocked many of the makes listed and set out my requirements (and budget!). i came away with a fairly lowly Giant Defy which had the added benefit of a significant end of season discount.

The decision to buy though was the feel of the bike and 10,000km later that hasn't changed.

I voted Giant as I'd probably start my search there but I wouldn't restrict my choice on brand alone.

I don't care about the brand, only the lump of meat pedalling it matters.

I tend to be go towards Specialized but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter.

I go for the shape and colourway that I prefer, rather than the brand.

Not especially brand loyal, whatever I can get the best deal on that I like the look of.

Most of them supposedly all come out of the same couple of factories in Taiwan anyway wink

My first choice at the moment is my Cube Peleton Race as it is my only road bike, love it and it's been a great and faultless bike over the last 4 years.

It will be joined however next year by either a Look 765 Optimum, a Wilier GTR Team or an Orro Gold...guess I'm in the "other" bracket then.

I voted for Canyon. I don't have one but I really (really) want one for my next bike - preferably an Endurace CF SL 8.0. I just think they look lovely.

Currently have a Giant, but I bought it as it was my first road bike, it was relatively cheap and I wasn't sure I'd stick with it. Would I have another one....probably. I'd have to ride one of the better carbon ones though first.

One thing I am sure about is that I absolutely would not buy or own either a Specialized or a Cannondale. They do nothing for me whatsoever.

Colnago for me, I have 4, but also Cinelli and (back in the day) Lemond.

All with Campag of course!
