Thread resurrection.
Having been bombarded with bloody annoying ads, I thought I'd look at this.

As Bubba says above.

£39 a month?????

I am considering a Peloton as I can no longer run and need to do something from home.

Do any of you with a Peloton have a referral code, I think it will get me £100 off any you £100 to spend on accessories.

Even adding a bike can be a hell of a lot cheaper than Peloton. It doesn’t have to be anything special. I paid £80 for my turbo bike with turbo tyre and I have another bike for the n+1 rule 😀. It’s not the best bike in the world but after tweaking the fit slightly it’s fine for the turbo.

I was interested in Peloton until I looked into it further. I want a fixed bike I can use with zwift but would be easier for the Mrs to use than the turbo setup is (swapping bikes, recalibrating, messing with pairing etc) I want to leave it setup and then have the ability to adjust the seat and bars as needed. The watt atom looks like the best option for this. Still not cheap but great resale value.

I know a lot of cyclists knock those who do indoor training but I say let them enjoy it if they choose. It's up to them how they spend their money. I'm not sure about Peloton but, I must confess, I haven't looked into it too much.

The thing I can see is that I suspect many of those who would be their target audience will already be cyclists, and thus have a bike already, and so a dedicated turbo trainer would be better, where they are using their bike which they are used to. It would be great for people who like spinning classes etc though.

I must confess, I love indoor training. Yes....I actually enjoy it. I have a Kickr, a Kickr Climb and use Sufferfest or Zwift. I like it because it can be incredibly productive, I don't need to worry about getting knocked off by some prat in a car, I don't need to worry about potholes, will I get a puncture and possibly be late for whatever I have to be back for etc. Don't get me wrong, I love riding outdoors, and the thrill from going quickly or smashing a climb is a wonderful thing. But, in my opinion, so is smashing a real tough workout.

I also have a portable air conditioning unit plus 2 monster fans....so I barely sweat at all hehe

I know someone who has one so I’ll ask them and see what they can come up with.

Before you pay a premium for Peloton - why not look into Zwift - it is truely interactive and great fun!

Zwift are adding this years UCI world championship course (Yorkshire) at the beginning of next month.

Exactly Zwift has 1000+ workout plans.

Plus you can race against other people. Trying to hang onto someone else's wheel who is much fitter than you is the best workout you can get.

Its 12.99/month and you can use your existing bike!

Agreed with trying Zwift first. On a direct-drive turbo then for somebody who ONLY ever wants to do workouts (ERG mode only) then you don't even need a proper bike - you could get away with a frame/forks, stem, bars, saddle, single-speed chainset, cassette and a chain. Just choose a cog on the back which gives the smoothest chain run.

I'd suggest finding a shop with a Neo demo system, if you can get one on sale then it would be massively cheaper than Peleton, and more flexible. The Neo v1 is functionally identical, so a 2nd hand one is worth considering too.

Another one for Zwift. Got my first (and still only) roadbike in 2016 - Giant defy in sale at £750. Then got a wahoo kickr Xmas before last for around £900 and signed onto Zwift and have stuck with it. So less than a Peloton bike, about 9000 miles so far, approx 2:1 road:indoors. Peloton strikes me as something to draw in rich people each January who are looking to lose weight and haven’t done their homework. I wonder how many gather dust within 6 months?

Looking forward to getting first carbon bike soon..

I wonder how useful the £2000 spin bikes will be if the Peloton company goes bust?? The filed losses of nearly $250million on turnover of $900million...

They're looking to raise another $500 million in the IPO, and warned in its filing that they may not turn a profit or ever maintain profitability in the future. Do you think happiness is a two grand spin bike and £40 a month subscription, or are Peloton's financial woes a good indication they're heading for the scrapheap? Let us know what you think in the comments of course...

I imagine it would be bought out and the "classes" could continue but without the debt burden? Presumably a lot of the burn is on advertising? It must be relatively cheap to run the system, it's a rota of instructors, a room, some fancy streaming/data software which has already been written.

I'm sure the system could be reverse-engineered to run with other software, but I doubt many people would be interested even if it was available as a hack.

I can't believe that on a £2K bike you have to adjust the resistance with a knob.... a cheap smart trainer (£200) and Zwift (£12.99/pm) will auto adjust based on the terrain, but you obviously need to self motivate.
I saw a comment on another website that resistance on a Peleton bike was manually adjusted and thought "nah, that can't be right"...

It's seems a lot of money for a basic bike and a closed platform. As somebody above mentioned, if Peleton goes bump you've got a nice clothes airer.

Wow, yes I always thought it was a 'smart trainer' with resistance controlled by workouts on the tablet. Holy moly it's *terrible* value then!

Is the peloton bike a better buy at £2k than a wattbike atom + an iPad or Apple TV for the same (a touch less in fact)

In my view, no way: the wattbike set up is better in every way. By a big margin

Is a peloton subscription better value than a zwift / trainer road / rouvy subscription for less money. Or even free to watch YouTube spin videos...

In my view, no way: the zwift / tr / rouvy set up is better in every way. By a big margin

But if peloton is the thing that gets someone pedalling persistently and consistently, then why not.

For Zwift I really like the look of this latest trainer offering from Cyclops which is supposed to make riding on a trainer feel more like riding a bike outside.

It's very expensive for what it is. Its feels like it should be about £200.

Fortunately I'm quite happy with my trainer being static, I've done 100k races on Zwift without destroying my undercarriage.

Having said that I've never tried a trainer that moves and it is always good to see companies innovating.

The longest day on the indoor trainer for me was when I did a Sufferfest Knighthood, that was about 9 hours in one day. When I was training for my Everesting I did about 145 miles on Zwift in one sitting, Although I think I stopped twice for a quick pee break!

I have a Kickr Climb to accompany my Kickr.....Given the new Saris board thing isn't compatible with that (I assume) even if I hadn't already got the Climb, I'd prefer a Climb to the wobble board thing I reckon. The Climb is expensive at £500 but jeez £1k for the board....although if it makes it feel so much more realistic and people want that, then absolutely fair enough...I would be jealous of anyone who has one!
