So, who's in and when are you starting?

I've got a charity place, starting the first wave (eurgh!). Hoping to do somewhere between 4 and 4.5 hours, with 4:15 probably being my realistic goal but I'll be trying to stay with the front group the whole way.

I'm not sure what to do about bottles, because I'm certainly not stopping if I'm going to hit that target! Hopefully 2 large ones will be enough...

I’m off at 6:16. I’ll probably smash stuff or something for the first 40 or 50 miles, get through the hills, and take it easy on the run back into town. As long as I’m back in time to see the classic set off ( from Bushey Park this year ) I’ll be happy. I’ll stop at the easier to get through stops, at Pyrford, and Wimbledon, if I need anything.

At that time I expect a quick bottle swap at the top of Box Hill will be possible or just ride with two 750ml. Should be fine unless it's baking hot.

The long range forecast I’ve seen is saying 31 degrees and humid this year.

When you have your number, look for which wave you’re in on here.

It’s a dark ride to the start at that time of the day, unless you’re coming from very close to the start.

Beckenham - 15 miles away so could be worse - going to try and nudge my mrs to drop me there...

Is it your first RL? I urge you to get the easiest travel method to the start line and back home again. Do not under estimate how tiring the logistics of the event are. I stayed at a hotel last year close to the start line and it was still an exhausting process.

I've done RideLondon twice and I didn't even enter the ballot for this year. I got utterly soaked on the last one and absolutely exhausted when I finally got home in the evening. I just about had the energy to order my Dominos biggrin

0604 if i'm reading that right.

AirBNB right next to the park will be a massive help!

Hopefully that doesn't become 31 degrees and thunder rain...

06:16 here, never done it before but I plan on not stopping, I did Birmingham Velo on one 750ml bottle without stopping but I imagine it will be warmer in August.

From my 3xperi3nce, your official start time is the time you start proper queuing, not the time you get off.

Don't underestimate how much you can be slowed by slower riders getting in the way either, and getting off and walking in the middle of the road.

Finally watch out for those who think they're pros and chain gang all the way around, who can be positively dangerous.

Yes the traffic can really build up in the some areas. I had a relatively early 0550 start time for my last RL and I still had got bogged down in traffic around Kingston way. e

Its a great ride if the weather is decent, but I still don't believe its worth the logistical headache

Rain also brings people running carbon rims with caliper brakes and they think shouting to get out of the way is a good idea biggrin

.
The start times are pretty accurate most years. It’s the loading and the shuffle down the funnel to the start that takes the time. Hence the reason for a time window between “load open” and “load close”.

No did it about 4 years ago, got a lift to greenwich early doors and cycled up through the (closed) blackwall from there - only issue for this year is that my training has been somewhat lacking since....hopefully get it done in <6 moving time to equal last time (when I bonked/cramped in <40 miles after being the wrong side of Richmond in <1 hour)
