Not something I've thought of before but... yesterday I was looking at uber bikes and considering spending £5k+ on a new commuting weapon (50 miles a day hence a station bike won't do!)

This morning I stacked my current steed on a wet roundabout. Not looked closely yet but it may be beyond repair. Hopefully I'm not!

It got me thinking... does insurance for this kind of "rider error" incident exist?

Active cover from Cycleguard May cover you in those circumstances, it’s worth a look but won’t be cheap... looks like yellow jersey cover accidental damage too but I’ve never heard of them. You’d need their performance package to get cover to £5k though you do get European cover and crit/sportive cover too

A £5k commuter sounds fun but will be a right royal PITA when it needs mudguards and the roads are full of salt and crap, those expensive components will wear quickly.

Any bike insurance policy covers you for stacking it surely - unless it's 3rd party only.

Most insurances for bikes are for theft, and / or third party liability. If you use a specialist bicycle insurer, they can tailor an insurance policy for you. Be warned though, a ‘cover all’ policy for a pricey rig, isn’t going to be cheap. I’m looking at getting a very pricey build underway during the winter, using a top end 2020 frame set, high end components, and so on. I’m looking at about 5-800 quid for the insurance, which is four times what I pay on my car for comp insurance laugh. But should I stack a 15 odd grand rig, I want to make sure I’m not going to get walloped in the nuts. Given that my usual rules are that my bike builds shouldn’t come in at any more than five grand, all in, this will be new territory for me, but what the hell, you only live once, right?
