Sorry if this has been done before

My road bike rear wheel is egg shaped and worn beyond repair, traditional quick release, clinchers and 10 speed, it's a campagnolo cassette and group set. I need a new one, if like to buy just the rear but suspect that buying a wheel set is more likely.

I must ride locally for fun and fitness and do the odd long ride and a few triathlons a year.

Must take a 10 speed campag cassette.

Budget under £300

Campag’s own entry level these days is the calima - a bit less than £130 for the pair

As others have said, budget Campag wheel sets would fit the bill perfectly. If you want to spend the full £300, you can usually find Zondas for that price.

Zondas certainly ride a lot better than their price tag would suggest, definitely the best around that price imho

Not wanting to start another "what wheels?" thread so I thought I'd tack onto the end of this one...

Does anyone have experience of the Fulcrum Racing 55 wheelset?

The reason I ask is that my Cannondale Backroads has American Classic Sprint 350 wheels on it, as they were a freebie from a friend when he upgraded to carbon wheels. The AC Sprints are coming to the end of their life anyway (rim wear) but use on gravel and off road racing has also put a dent in the rim at the rear. I've tapped it out with a hammer as best I can, but it's still a bit "grabby" under braking.

I'm fancying these Fulcrum Racing 55s from Wiggle... https://www.wiggle.co.uk/fulcrum-racing-55-wheelse... ...mainly on account of their price (£115.99, 60% off). I think it may be because they are built with a white hub, limiting their appeal to the fashionable "stealth paint" crowd.

Or there is the Fulcrum Racing 6 C17... https://www.wiggle.co.uk/fulcrum-racing-6-c17-road... ...(£148.99 with 30% off).

Any reason to avoid either of these? Or a better alternative at similar or lighter weight for a similar price? Both the 'Dale and my road bike have rim brakes, the 'Dale is 9-speed, the Trek Emonda road bike is 11-speed. Neither has fancy through-axles or anything, traditional quick-release skewers all round. I'm beginning to wish I'd put the American Classics onto the Emonda now, and bought new wheels for the 'Dale as I probably wouldn't have bashed the rim in if the wheels were on my road bike. I've got space now to stash new wheels out of sight in the garage, so getting the parcel past my wife isn't going to be a problem, although covering my financial tracks on a joint account might be a little more difficult...

As I said above , I can comment on my experience of fulcrum wheels has been excellent, still running true after 3 years of use in all weathers , I do have fulcrum racing 3 's so a tad more expensive , but worth it I think . Lightweight and strong what more do need . I guess the cheaper fulcrum wheels would ride as well just a bit heavier ?

I've had a Zonda ( / Fulcrum 3) rim crack just outside the warranty. Had lots of life left in it besides that. I only realised when I caught my finger on the crack when cleaning. The bike had felt a little bouncy for a few weeks prior but I couldn't find anything wrong.

I'd still rate them well while they were working but I think the newer model might be sealed cartridge bearings now? I liked the simplicity of servicing the cup and cone bearings, just two 5mm allen keys required.

Just to update, I bought a second hand pair of campag scirrocos for a little over £100 with cassette, they're pretty much unused and roll lovely. I'm pleased.
