My '03 Marin East Peak. First year they went to multi-pivot from single pivot. I think only the frame, seat post, and bars are original.

Still my only bike, gets used for everything; even if it was worth £2k i have no idea what I would replace it with?

Everyone at work refers to it as retro, cheeky bds!

Bloody hell, that's high tech state of the art to me!
I suppose it was quite advanced at the time, it's still 17 years old though!

Love the forks on that GT. Especially the fact you have modified them to suit you.

I have a Trek 8000 from the mid 90s kicking about, as someone said above the geometry is very stretched out. It is in lunar purple which is an awesome colour. Might have to get it out and swap the stem, what do people use these bikes for now?

Also have a Raleigh Team Banana road bike, the cheap one not the Reynolds steel frame one, But it’s too small for me and really have no idea why I still have it!

Me too - love that bike.

Great seeing some of the older bikes from the early days of MTB.

Some great stuff on here, esp that Zaskar...

I’ve got 1998 GT Tempest frame in the garage which I think shares its geometry with the Zaskar but is made from 7000 series aluminium rather than 6061. It also came much lower specced - I think it was fully rigid when I bought it but was soon shod with a set of Z4 Flylight Air. Which are now on my daughters bike...

I still ride my 2005 (?) XTC and use it to take the young bloke off road. Currently running 3x9 SRAM X9 and J7 brakes with a Nukeproof rigid carbon fork and 1.75” slicks.

And the one that got me going on longer travel FS bikes - 2006 575 - wish I hadn’t broken it...

I no longer have it, but I loved my ‘94 Orange Clockwork.

Ordered from MacLaines in Wolverhampton and collected the following week (I was away on business in the area at the time and called by the shop to ‘browse’ one lunchtime laugh)

They threw in a few upgrades, LX front and rear mechs and a set of Campag Atek rims on LX hubs (the rest was STX RC).

It was replaced with a HT P7 in 2007.

Nice, my 94 says hello it was that colour but I had it stripped and powder coated must have been before Y2k, still get's regular use but i have had to add wider upswept bars as i'm old now.

The snowflake front wheel on hope hub(anodised of course) is still 100% true

Inhave a pine mountain and love it, but cant ride it easily as geometry way too stretched out for my comfort and not sure worth the cost to change or even if possible. Plus the forks have collapsed and would need a good service.

Shame as heavily specced with either xt or hope titanium (hubs) and manitou sx titanium forks.
Similar here, I have a 1990 Trek 8300 which is a very smooth light ride but stretches my back, which I didn’t realise was down to the geometries of bikes back then
That's one of the reasons I went for the Bontrager Crow Bar and a shorter stem back when I was speccing up the ancient Kona.

Mine is my only bike, so I use it for everything! I'm neither fit nor skilled, so I'd describe my riding as slow XC with occasional slow single track attempts! January this year was the first time I'd cycled for ten years though, just getting back into it.

It's amusing to see so many big frames.

I used to buy 19s in the early 1990s (I was 5ft 10) but after a few years learned that life was just better with 17s.

I've had a few retro rides, i think, as previously mentioned 80's and early 90's are considered the proper "retro" era..

My favourite was my early 90's Litespeed titanium.....built up from a never used frame a few years ago...stupidly expensive cranks too!

The only retro in our house now is the 1991 Orange Prestige i built for my daughter, she loves purple so managed to track down lots of bling for it and some very rare retro Macaw tyres!

I lusted after my mates Clockwork Orange, loved those bikes. My other mate had a Marin Muirwoods, loved seeing the colours of the one earlier. What was the difference between the yellow and the orange ones, completely forgotten.

We still have an Alpinestars T24 in my folks garage that my brother had at the time, no idea what condition that’s in these days though.

I used to have a few mid-90's Marin and GT brochures, used to love the Marin's with the flat matt grey paintjobs and the GT zaskars and Lobos

I had a GT timberline as my first proper mtb, got stolen at Uni though in 1997. Replaced it was a specialized stumpjumper with judy T2 forks and full deoreXT, that was a great bike which I wish I'd kept. Sold it to my flatmate when I left Uni, a year later he sold it to a local bike shop who only gave him £25 - they thought it was nicked because they remembered me owning it for a few years! If I'd known I'd have bought it off him for £50 laugh

I have the frame and components of one of these in the shed.

Keep thinking of building it back up, but have never really found the time.

One of the items that I've always got my eyes open for is a set of decent forks to go on my GT - a straight-through headset, rather than tapered, and 26" wheels does limit availability. Of course, in the past I've sold on a couple of sets of Fox Floats, some old Marzocchis, and most recently a pristine set of RS Revelations. Doh!

Bugger, crawling through bay of theives to see what it would cost to get back on the road! Its still got Middleburn Cranks and XT / XTR Brakes & Shifters on it. So not needing that much.

Might dig it out this week and see what is needed. I always had the idea of just stripping it down and hanging the frame & forks in my office.
