Retro Road Bikes ?

.... lots...
Similarly I used to race in 10mi and 25mi TT when I was at school, mid 80s. My bikes then cost more than my parents' cars, combined, but since I earned my money for them, did all my own repairs, AND had to ride my bike to and from the TT (!!) as my folks weren't interested my stuff, I could as I pleased.
I then had a Bianchi and a Colnago with Campagnolo groupsets for Sunday club rides (usually 100 mi.) and TT use, a Raleigh Record Spint for school commuting and going out with mates, etc., and a heavyweight steel framed Puch with 26" steel wheels for my numerous paper rounds.

Here's my two retro bikes - both were bought when I didn't know anything about purchasing a road bike, during the first lockdown, as I had never owned a road bike before the Bianchi. The Bianchi is earlier than the Trek and both are late 90s I believe and both are wonderful to ride.
A Bianchi would not have been cheap at the time that was made, and a Trek 5000 was a very good bike when new!louiebaby said:
It's had very little use at all. I got it a few years ago as a little project, and with a bit of clean up all it needed was pads and tyres, as they had perished.
According to Strava, I've done 99.4 miles on it.
Also that looks like the largest raleigh road frame i’ve ever seen. It looks bigger than a 25!According to Strava, I've done 99.4 miles on it.

Nice 20 miles this morning, mixture of tarmac and gravel, these 35c tyres are really good for the rough stuff, was quite surprised how quick I could cover ground.
New SS KMC chain fitted, lovely thing to bimble on, keeping me fit anyway
Is that freewheeling or fixed? I'll get a photo up but I have a falcon cotswold fixie conversion. Contemplated selling it recently but dont know of I can let go I'll try get a photo up when i find out howNew SS KMC chain fitted, lovely thing to bimble on, keeping me fit anyway

Yep, freewheel but as someone else pointed out, it's a flip flop hub...not that hardcore to go fixed Ryyy said:
Mines a flip flob hub but never tried it free wheeled. I dont male it loom as easy as others do and feel like I'm having a heart attack when I come back from a ride are pedal straps a big player?I've not got them
Not necessarily if you have brakes fitted as well, but without them you need straps for braking. I wandered past cash converters today and this caught my eye.
I remembered these from around the mid eighties.
I wanted one, but my Mum and Dad couldn't afford one. They bought me a Raleigh Winner instead.
I can see the bars aren't original, they actually look like they're from the Winner rather than the Record.
MTB pedals will have to go.
Looking forward to taking it out.

Might as well pop this picture up: my eighties Dave Yates, 753 steel and far too big a chainring for my puny legs. It rides like a slightly nerve-wracking floating carpet of perfection. It deserves a better photoshoot really.
What size is the chainring? And yes, more pics, please.
(Next trip to the UK, I'm retrieving my Record Sprint for a complete refurb. Mavic G40 instead of the crappy wheels it came with, though.)
