Hi, after a bike rack for my R53 mini to hold two bikes (one full suss). Any recommendations?

Been looking at the saris bones 2 but not sure if it will fit!!

Cheers!

A quick google search shows plenty of photos of Minis with Saris Bones bike racks fitted. I had one on my Mx5 and various hatchbacks and it worked well. It will scratch your paintwork though where the feet sit.

Another thing to be weary of is how the full sus bike will sit on the bike rack. Due to a sloping top tube, I had to have the two different legs of the rack at different heights to make the bike sit level. Could be tricky with two bikes on the rack.

That being said, my mate had an R53 Mini and we got too full sus mtbs in the back with both wheels off.

Cheers, halfords are saying it won’t fit but I had seen a pic with one on. I think you can buy some sort of extension tube so it sits normally, I need to look into that as well!

They are good bike racks. Mines survived a fair amount of enthusiastic driving to the trails and was very secure.

Just been doing some more reading and someone is saying it can dent the bumper, did you use any sort of load spreading with yours?

No extra load spreading other then the standard rubber feet which come with the rack. Didn’t have any issues with bumpers denting with two bikes on the back.

I've tried lots of different options over the years, and to be honest I'd really only use a towbar mounted Thule now.

i've bought a suction mounted rack and im extremely impressed.

My car cant have a tow bar due to the rear diffuser, and i dont have roof rails installed so i cant get a rack on there without quite an expensive outlay. Then theres fixing the rack, taking it off, or driving with it fixed to the car which is a bit ugly and generates wind noise.

The suction mount is just incredible. Granted it took a bit of getting used to with regards to trust, but honestly its solid.

i've got a 3 bike rack due to the weight of an E bike. It'll take 3 full suss bikes with no issues all day! They are available in dual and single bike mounts.

It comes with quick release skewers that go through your front hub, there are various adapters to get separately if you have larger or smaller diameter hubs. Installing the rack, and bike, takes about.. 3 minutes!

Looks like 3 bike one by Rockbros, was just about to post if anyone used it as it's not clear which adapters for the QR that it comes with as standard/ and which one(s) the poster used....ETA or if spent more on Seasucker...I've just ordered a Rockbros so will see how that goes.

I've got a Saris Bones 3 for when I'm carrying multiple bikes - I've never found the car they don't fit on...including a Mini.

But for one bike, I use a suction carrier, mine is a Seasucker. So much easier, so much quicker. If I regularly carried two bikes, I'd get the 2-bike option. No question.

Late reply sorry.

yes its a Rockbros 3 bike carrier. I looked at the Sea Sucker 3 bike equivilent and the price is just eye watering. Granted they have a lot of R&D to cover considering the price, but the Rock Bros is almost identical, does the same job, and is a third of the price. Was a no brainer as i havent read a single bad review about the Rock Bros carrier.

I forgot what size the QR skewers were that came with them. Most modern MTB bikes use Boost axles now(15x110mm). So to use the rack i ordered the 15x110 diam adapters. They slot in to each side of the axle mounting point on the bike rack, and enable your existing hub/quick release to be used. You wont need to use the QR skewers supplied with rack with the boost adapters.

it'll hold 3 traditional bikes of any sort with ease. Seems to work better on a glass roof but its fine on paint too. For obvious reasons i'd clean the surface before attaching the suckers - i keep some quick detailer in the boot to do this safely.

I say go for it. as a bonus they look rather cool!

How do you find getting the bikes on, is it a bit fiddly? Yea I had a look at the sea sucker and they are very expensive in comparison!

My E bike is 23kg. Im 6ft and would class myself as pretty strong, but it is defo hard work - thats because your straining above the car to get the bike to sit right into the rack and the rear sucker without actually touching the car at all. In the middle of the car too, so you're stretched out quite far.

However, a traditional non e bike would be a breeze. more than half the weight less would just make moving the bike around a lot easier.

Theres a bit of a knack to it, and doing it for the first time or two you'll probably look like the pink panther doing it... but after a few times you can throw the rack and bike on the car in what feels like seconds.

Another vote for the Rockbros here.
