I'm thinking of buying the peloton plus. Are there any discounts available?

I know about the interest free option but just wondering if it's possible to buy at a discount?

Is there a time of year where they throw in freebies (accessories maybe?) Or times in the year when they discount? Do they offer a saving on Black Friday or in Xmas sales?

Thanks in advance

Each to their own of course but Peloton seem really expensive both for the bike and subscription.

You could get a decent bike and smart trainer or Watt Bike Atom and use Zwift. I’ve got some friends using Peloton and it seems pretty one dimensional. On the other hand it works for them and they’re not cyclists.

Its not even a smart, you have to adjust resistance manually. Buy a real bike and a smart trainer, you’ll be far better off

Pardon the ignorance but what's a smart trainer?

The Peloton plus does have automatic resistance adjustment though.

Still, am interested to hear more about the smart trainer.

The new Peloton bike is smart i.e. it measures power, has an electromagnetic brake etc. but only works as part of their closed system.

Peloton is a lot of money and many may not see the appeal but a lot of people clearly do.

Can’t comment discounts, but we’ve got the first generation pelaton. You see a lot of “it’s expensive, you can stick a bike on a turbo trainer etc etc (all true by the way) but... the pelaton experience is money well spent if you’ve got it to spare. Its far better than both me an the wife thought it would be. The classes, the communities, the instructors, the app,
are all top class. There’s a lot of motivational chat in the classes which is cheesy, but it helps push you harder. I’m not one for recommending many products, but if you like to spin, it’s a phenomenal bit of kit to have at home

Maybe it works for some people but it doesn’t appeal. I’ve got Zwift and a trainer for when it’s potentially icy but nothing beats a proper bike ride with friends, a nice coffee and cake stop and a bit of pushing each other. Buy yourselves proper bikes and do the real thing, anything else is a poor imitation

Peloton is a really slick, expensive way to take spin classes at home, when you fancy

For that it’s brilliant imo, I’m really enjoying mine

For real cycling training a smart trainer and zwift is sensible

You forgot to add “to me” on the end of appeal.
He’s probably got a decent bike, a lot of
People do.
I’m always fascinated by the amount of people who dismiss and have an opinion of something without having owned or used said thing! You’re right though ,
having a cycle out on a beautiful morning is a phenomenal thing. Jumping on a pelaton with hundreds of people whenever you like is also a phenomenal thing. Guess what, you’re allowed to do both

Sorry can't help with a view on discounts on a Peloton plus. I seem to recall Peloton's Black Friday last year didn't discount the bikes but did discount the accessories (shoes / dumbells etc) which TBH could probably be bought for less if you weren't tied to having Peloton branded stuff.

As someone that enjoys a smart trainer and Zwift / FullGaz etc I was skeptical about Peloton. I have a very good spin bike ( this) which I thankfully only paid a few hundred quid for and I use the Peloton app on my phone for spin classes. Peloton for me is something I jump on when I have a spare 45 mins to do a spin class, don't want to think about what I am doing and want to listen to some tunes. My spin bike is 5 paces from my working from home desk, in the house and means it gets a fair bit of use (3+ times a week).

Kickr Core + Zwift for when I when I want to do some structured training, have a social ride with a mate on Facetime or I just want to spin the legs for a couple of hours in the garage with the fans on.

Thanks for this. I’m on the hunt for some kind of exercise ‘bike’ and see a lot of people highly critical of peloton, most seem to be avid (hardcore?) cyclists, simply because it is more expensive than buying a bike and a TT. But as far as I can tell they are designed for totally different markets.

I have no interest in road riding or training to do so, which seems to be the key market for those who purchase a TT?

I just want something the wife and I can get on for a 30/45 minute blast. So it seems to me a spin bike is ideal. I assume if you use the peloton app there is no synchronisation with live riding/leaderboards etc?

Yep

It’s a spin bike, a very slick nice one, but it’s for spin classes

And for that it’s great imo

I can give you a discount/referral code (XEWCXX) which would get £100 off your purchase (full disclosure I would also get £100 to spend on ‘apparel’).

I was somewhat skeptics before purchasing mine (given the cost) but have not regretted it since!

You might be able to do a ride in real time (really not sure as I have only done classes that have already shown) but as none of your output is transmitted to Peloton, essentially you are watching a video of a spin class, which you could get from Youtube or wherever else. For me, it's a low-faff option for getting a bit of spinning in, in between Zwift and outdoor riding

Agree with other comments, it's a great way to do structured exercise with low organisation / effort but obviously relies on the user to push themselves. I absolutely beast myself in the sessions but I imagine others may need to be in a real spin class to get encouragement from the room / not cheat

the community and class sizes, what are the size of classes, do they provide motivation personally to you like a gym class?

Exactly this. Unfortunately a lot of people don’t seem to understand this and insist on comparing it to setups designed to help those who regularly compete in road races.

There can be up to 100,000 people in a class. So you’re unlikely to get any specific feedback from the instructor. But I assume the generic shouts of encouragement, leaderboards etc are probably sufficient motivators.

on the advert she shouts out twice, can't imagine that works with 100k other people.

i guess a spin bike and watching a free workout is similar then or am i missing something.

Probably not a lot. But the motivation of a group workout is effective.

Even the group workouts on Zwift, even without a ride leader, effectively fully automated, make you push yourself harder.

Don't underestimate the power of collective suffering and pain.

They seem to call out to people that have hit milestones like 500th ride or whatever. I only use the app so doesn't affect me and I couldn't care less if they called my name out.

Yes a spin bike and watching a free workout online or subscribing to another Spin class video provider e.g. Les Mills would have a similar affect but for us, the low-faff setup of Peloton on my iPad plus the other classes they offer (my wife and I were paying for online Yoga during lockdown but stopped that since getting the Peloton App) suits us for £12.99 a month

I do think folks need to stop comparing Peloton with Zwift / Smart Trainers. They are different responses to different markets
