I'm never going to lose weight on it because I drink wine like it is going out of fashion!(I don't put any weight on either though). I'm just ticking over as usual and I've been on the bike 9 times up to yet this month(I try to go on it 3 times most weeks generally). I still enjoy it when I'm on it which certainly helps I reckon, and it is the music that inspires me mostly about it. I used to love dancing and going clubbing when I was younger as well(that was a long time ago now though!).
I definitely work harder (and feel the fatigue less) when it's a song I know and like. I've actually taken to checking the playlists before choosing a ride to find ones I'll enjoy the most.

Since returning to Spain I’ve tried not to come in from work at 5.30ish and just plonk myself down with a couple of beers… instead I’ve been getting the gear on and doing 30 min music classes or an hour endurance if I finish earlier, like today. This is precisely what the Peloton excels at… there’s no way I would bother if I had to make the effort to go to a gym.
This is it for me 100%.

I'm not going to go to the faff of attending the gym after work. Peloton means I'll be doing something rather than nothing. Moreover, it pushes you to exercise harder. I don't think I'd push as hard if going on jog on my own.

Focus on diet going well. Already gluten free so most 'treats' are off the table anyway (biscuits, cake etc). Using myfitnesspal a bit to gauge calories as a ballpark. Apparently for 0.5kg weight loss a week I need to be aiming for ~ 1500kcal daily.

Trying also to incorporate more foods to aid gut microbiome (as per Tim Spector), so more fibre, nuts (pistachio), seeds (pumpkin and sunflower) and Greek yoghurt.
.
1,500 cals/day yikes

My BMR is 1,700, and I’m usually over 3,000/day, with some days over 4,000 (if I’m really busy with heavy work and I exercise when I get in).

I probably snack/drink 1,500 cals a day laugh

As well as wine/beer, nuts are a massive weakness for me, and although they aren’t necessarily bad, they do have a lot of calories. I’ve had to stop buying them (alongside crisps) as I trough them if they are in the house.

1520 iirc. This was assuming no activity/exercise on the app.

I'm not much of a boozer at all, alcohol minimal tbh (most weeks totally without).

Changed the diet a lot from Jan. Knocked takeaways/McDonald's etc on the head as much as possible. Taken sugar out the diet as well (used to drink 5-6 cups of tea a day, all with 2x sugars). I'm not going to stop my daily Pepsi Max. I bought 2kg of Pumpkin seeds from ebay. Finished off about 1kg so far. Started Peloton early Feb.

Starting weight was about ~78kg, now down to 73.5kg.

Been listening to the Andrew Huberman and Peter Attia podcasts - lots of good stuff re training and nutrition on those.

So 1500 is your BMR… if you’re reasonably active you’ll actually burn 2,500+ a day.

If you’re really serious about losing weight you need an activity tracker (a Fitbit), linked to your bike and a proper macro tracker.

I did it for a couple of months this time last year to shed the 10kg I put on after my covid vaccination triggered an auto immune condition which took best part of 7 months to diagnose and treat.

The used Chronometer to track my macros.

It’s a bit monotonous having to weigh everything you eat, but it definitely works… also motivated me to do loads of exercise as an extra half hour on the bike meant I could have a couple of beers!

I'm not super weight focused, just looking at global lifestyle improvement when it comes to diet and exercise. I want to make changes that are long term and sustainable. Hence my avoiding the super strict calorie/macro counting or activity tracking. As was mentioned by someone earlier in the thread, most people who diet end up putting on the weight back on (and more in some cases) within a year.

Basically I want to eat healthier and make changes that are the least restrictive to my life (the less the restriction the easier to maintain):
- Minimal/no ultra processed foods.
- More whole foods.
- Takeaway only rare treat rather than weekly habit
- More fibre
- More protein.
- Some plant based main meals (eg Indian Daal)
- Greek yoghurt some of the mornings (not interested in other fermented food options eg Sauerkraut or Kimchi)
- Minimise any additional sugar intake (my first cup of tea of the day will still have 1x sugar though!)

Also decided to supplement with Vit D and Fish Oil.

The Peloton has been great for activity and motivation. Ever so convenient. Definitely seeing a difference.

I've even done some real life Peloton down to the shops biggrin

Yeah, my Lifestyle was pretty crap when I lived in the Uk… get in from work and stick a pre prepared meal in the oven for 30 mins 3 or 4 days a week… takeaways the other 3 or 4 days. Smoked a pack a day. At least a bottle of wine every night and a joint to relax.

When I left the corporate hamster wheel, summer 2019, and moved to Spain I made massive changes to my diet… always enjoyed cooking, but now had the time to learn to cook properly… and little choice as there’s no pre prepared food here. Now I might have 1 take away a month (a cheeky kebab). Rest of the time I’m cooking from scratch, and eat virtually no processed food at all.

Gave up joints pretty quickly, but took me 18 months to bite the bullet and give up the ciggies after near 40 years… now 2 years smoke free.

Same on the music side… Ben Aldis… House music and EDM classes… my go to for 30 mins.
Ben is my favourite go to with those rides too. thumbup

It's painful to admit, but alcohol does have a huge impact.

I put on 3kg over Christmas, got up to a still fairly svelte 66.7kg for context. With a couple of bike events in the first half of the year, including the Mallorca 312, I decided to throw a concerted effort into losing that weight and some.

Went plant-based, slightly increased gym training, still did the same 6-10hrs/week on the bike - still had a drink just about every night during the week, plus a bottle of wine, sometimes more, each evening at the weekend. I dropped just over a kilo after 4 weeks and my average Whoop recovery improved by 5-10 percentage points but still almost always yellow.

I then dropped all mid-week drinking, and pulled back a little at the weekend, kept everything else the same. The following 4 weeks I dropped 3kg and my Whoop recovery was almost permanently green.

I now don't really miss the mid-week wine, and reward myself with a far nicer bottle of wine on a Friday and Sunday evenings.
My hat is off to you bud. clap

A fantastic achievement that is for sure. beer

I really need to cut back on the wine as well to be fair.

Yes and I've done that one a few times as well! thumbup

Like you I do absolutely love the playlist(plus rhythm is a dancer is my all time favourite dance tune), but exactly like you I did cringe a bit when Gina G popped up at the end though! hehe

Children would be one of my top 2 or 3 trance tunes and Anthem is one of the greatest rave tracks of all time… apparently his GF, Leanne Hainsby, convinced him Gina G was Ok laugh

I’ll never do one of her classes as a protest.

She does choose some good dance playlists to be fair usually, but I find her a bit too irritating personally, so I just stick with Ben now.

The only female instructor classes I do are Robin’s tabatas (pure fking pain) and a very occasional Olivia power zone.

Almost all my classes are either 30 min Ben Aldis music themed, ofr 45/60 min Matt Wilpers PZ.

Sounds like you've done a lot of great work, well done.

Never done a Ben Aldis workout before.

Did this one (based on the recommendation here) this morning and achieved a 20 min output PB. Was rather tough I thought, he kept that resistance up high (for me) even during the rest/recoveries!

I have a heart rate monitor. Not used it so far. Seems like this is the next step in terms of the Zone training?

Not much to add other than really enjoying it so far. Only 100ish rides in so far. Bought it just before Xmas. A plus, barely used (blocks still in plastic etc) for £1,100. Enjoying trying for pb’s. 497 30 min. Can’t remember the others offhand. Try to get in the top 1%. Don’t always manage it. 94kgs, so need to lose some weight. Quite fit. Enjoy cycling. My weight means I definitely ‘over perform’ on peloton compared to road cycling.
Started ‘peak your power zones’. Significant throttling back compared to most rides but kind of feels tough.
Trying lots of instructors and they all have something going for them. Music’s great. Can’t see myself getting bored any time soon. I only have to walk a few yards to a great gym in a barn but I still mostly end up doing peleton indoors.
Need to do more off bike peleton workouts.
Would definitely recommend one. Maybe secondhand so can always sell it if not used much and pretty cheap per month for what you get.

Hr is a great tool for keeping an eye on your fitness, mine is remarkably well correlated to effort (which isn't a surprise).

Back to an earlier post, the fact Peloton let's me stuff my face like this every weekend and still keep all the metrics in the right regions.

Unfortunately the bearings on the bike starting to get noisy a few weeks back. literally 3-4 days post 1 year warranty ending. To Peloton's credit, they said given the issue happened within 1 week of warranty expiring, they'll send a technician to replace for free. Well done Peloton. clap Hasn't altered how the bike is working, so still using it as before.
And here they are, nice and early.
