Hi anybody have any recommendations for theft cover for the above up to a value of 5k? I would even consider moving home and contents as mine will only cover to 3k.
I am getting quotes around £250+ when I have just renewed agreed value of 35k on my Mexico for £116 so these quotes hurts.

Can you specify such items on your H&C insurance? Have you asked?

I was surprised too and didn't bother. Although I bought one of those motorbike disc locks from Amazon along with a half decent wire loop. Okay it's only good for putting around a tree if I have to go for a pee but it does screetch loudly if you mess with it. I keep the bike in a locked alarmed garage when not in use and I transport it inside my van. So I guess the only scenario I can think of is if I fall off and I'm unconscious someone could make off with it. I have also put one of thoseTrackR discs on the bike so that may help.

Those dedicated bicycle insurers are unreal - yellowjersey quoted me double what I pay for a latest model £17K Yamaha R1 !!!! Absolute joke!

We are insured with Aviva and have extension worldwide cycle cover (covers TP risk, theft etc worldwide) and it's based solely on the value of the most expensive bike - was about £40.

I do it through my home cover with Barclays, I don't have any that expensive but I think they go up to £5k.

The standalone cover tends to assume you'll be leaving it in sheds, locked up in town, etc and you're doing well to get an annual premium much under 10% of value.

It's on my home insurance. .Can't remember the premium but I don't think it was more than £20.

Just looked at Aviva but looks like they only cover to 3.5k!

Check if they cover bikes with motors. They would not add to my cycle cover as it has a motor even when I explained that it was a standard commercially available bike.

I have checked Barclays and yes they do cover 5k of bike for approx. £60 which I think is very reasonable but I noticed they only cover 3k of garage contents - present insurance covers 5k in the garage which I always thought was not enough. Guess you win some you loose some! Garage is attached to house has 2 alarm systems etc but because I blocked the door way from the house to garage up for extra security and to reduce the risk of a fire spreading they classed the garage as a separate building hence the limit!

I have the same issue - 2.5k garage contents cover because it's detached. If it was integral it'd be like house contents - unlimited. Consequently it's like a fortress and I keep stuff like my giant Snap-on socket set and a Makita power tools in the house, which is a pain in the arse. 2.5k is woeful and I'd be utterly screwed if it got cleaned out - hence the security.

However if your bikes are in there the cover on those is separate, so it doesn't include the bikes, it's bikes on top.

I do need to sort this myself as our Aviva home insurance is up next month, I have a 4.6k ebike coming (they only go to 3.5k) and I am a bit sick of not being able to cover my garage contents.

I've just renewed with Aviva. No problem insuring my hard tail none eeb and others in the shed ( that is seriously beefed up and alarmed) but the eeb with a value of 5750 is only covered if I keep it in the house.
It does also need to be chained to something immovable in the house, I mentioned that would probably be hard in the house. The advisor said chain it to a radiator. Yeah right. The thing held to the wall with a handful of raw plugs lol.

I have recently invested in one of those motorbike anchor points and lock my bike to that, so if anyone get in the garage or if I leave the door open then they cant just walk off with it. A neighbour used to leave his garage door open for hours at a time, I did suggest that perhaps given the 20k worth of bikes in there, that wasnt a good idea, manage to keep them but only I suspect as he was at the end of the cul de sac and no "passing trade".

Mine was locked to the mains cable into the house, which would have been interesting if they cut through it.

What's the score with the eeb if you are out and about and it gets stolen or you got mugged for it? (I actually worry about that now that eBikes are getting more common - the scallies are going to be on them like a tramp on chips). Will they still cover it up to £3.5k

I'm going to call Aviva later - it's basically a deal breaker on our home insurance - and it's a hefty premium too as it's a stone building (as opposed to brick).

As there's already a power source there, I'm surprised more e-bikes don't have built in security features. Van Moof offer built in locks, alarms and trackers that are disarmed by the proximity of your phone, but I've not seen similar from other manufacturerss. Shame their current bikes look rather ugly to my eye. I'm not sure what you'd do if you fell off and broke your phone, and I'd also be a bit bit worried about how reliable the technology will be as it gets older, but there's some interesting ideas.

As for insurance, definitely check the small print on your household insurance, mine said it covered bikes but when I looked in to it it was only up to about 300 quid.

I've just this minute got off the phone with Aviva as the renewal is due next month - they actually now insure bikes (and ebikes) with the most expensive being up to £5000 (ie premium based on the most expensive, they still pay for the lot if more than one gets pinched). For information my £4600 Canyon and £1800 Cube have a total premium of £80 a year - premium based on the Canyon. I assume that sum will be risk/postcode based. The increase over this year based on my £3200 Haibike was £9.

I was in the same position. New Emtb, looking at specialist insurance companies and like you say, £200 > £250 pa for insurance. Rang the home insurers and they’ve insured it for theft in and out the house. So long as it’s tied to an immovable object (like I wouldn’t anyway) then it’s fully insured. £40 on the house insurance and that’s it. Not bad at all.
