Nice ride out in the sun today to stretch the legs, into Cambridge via Madingley War Cemetery.

Nippy in Herts this morning, although I think I’ve almost cracked my winter outfit. Could do with something to keep my toes warm though.

Road surfaces seem to have taken a battering over the last couple of months. Very glad to be out on 40mm tyres!

Coln Rogers always looks perfect. The picture never does it justice. Just outside Bibury along a very quiet valley road.

Not too far from Barton Road Range, where they filmed part of 'Full Metal Jacket'. I have fired my annual personal weapons test on the lane Private Pyle uses in the film.

After a cock up this mooring where we turned up at the trails minus one of my son's pedals (which was on his new bike that I'm building up for Christmas) I managed to convince him to come out on my usual lunchtime loop. After some rubbish weather earlier in the week it was nice to see the sun again.

It's not a bad route when you just want to do some mostly road free miles. Northstowe tap and social is always decent for a coffee and cake or cheeky beer too.

Now that's new news to me. Will have to rematch over the Christmas break then go and ride and see it. Thanks.

I watched 'Die Another Day' again this evening. I was counting the number of filming locations I'd stood, run or cycled in or on. Hovercraft chase? I've mountain biked there. Prisoner exchange Bailey Bridge? We built that on the training area near Hawley Lake. Eden project. Etc, etc. I remember a security guard trying to chase us off when we went to the set after they'd wrapped. There was a pile of wrecked vehicles that had been adapted to be flipped upside down in stunts. All good fun...

Very nice. Some seemingly nice rides towards your end. I'm the other side of Cambridge and my routes away from traffic are few and far between. Perhaps I ought to look at going out along the guided busway towards St Ives one day.

Saying that, I do still have to utilise cycle route 11 towards Ely... All my riding atm is commuting, and it's not quite as fun.

This is the time of year when I usually annoy the regulars of this corner of PH with shots of my bike at the beach in beautiful weather. But I’m not there this year, so you’ll have to make do with this morning’s definitely-not-from-a-bike-ride shot of a boat on the way to the Great Barrier Reef…

biggrin

Hope you all had a great Christmas!

Got some heated gloves as a present, today was the perfect day to test them out. Need to make sure I up IRL cycling for 2026.

Rode to my parent's house for second Christmas, with my lad - it was also a shakedown for his new bike. 16km through some local woods, cycle routes and stopped briefly to watch a cyclocross race.

Been ill with one thing after another recently, but managed to get out for a steady run round Halifax with a climb up an ancient road called the Magna Via,

What are the gloves? I've decided to finally give in and buy some.

I bought some and regretted it. Looked like a good website. They were 80quid and I tested in the house and they were really hot. The first ride with them and turns out they were not windproof, so my hands froze apart from the back of my hand. I went back to my trusty specialized spock gloves and they have kept me toasty for the last 3 months.

I might splash out of some heated Sealskinz if they drop in a summer sale.
