As per title really. Last night some censored scumbag censoredcensored half inched one of my bikes. It was in a supposedly “secure” bike pen, and locked to a solid loop. Unfortunately the shed has been targeted a few times over the years, but this is the third time in as many months. I wouldn’t normally leave anything of value in there, and I wasn’t planning on doing so last night, but I was in a rush last night, so left it in there ‘temporarily’ with the intention of moving it into my flat overnight ( which I normally do ). I forgot, and when I came down at 4:50 this morning, it was gone. There is CCTV all over the ( gated ) car park in which the shed is, so hopefully the censored responsible is on camera, and known to either myself, or the security in the building. It could have been worse. If I’d been stupid enough to leave my better / best bikes in there, I’d be even more pissed off. The bike that got nicked was a 7 year old hybrid, but it did have a pretty pricey upgraded wheelset on it ( Mavic XA Carbon Elite tubeless ). I’m hoping the turd that nicked it doesn’t realise, and makes the mistake of appearing on it somewhere I am at the same time. The noise they make ( both from the freehub and Carbon rims) is unusual for a bike like that, and it will be immediately obvious if it’s anywhere near me. Likewise if the censored trys to sell it, and doesn’t know what they’ve got, it will be immediately obvious. That’s all reliant on them not knowing what they’re looking at of course. I’ve reported it to the local plod via their website reporting page, but they’ve not had a good track record with this sort of thing previously. Anyway, every cloud has a silver lining, and I found a ( really good spec for the money ) replacement, at Decathlon. So it’s an N-1+N=status quo. Still censored dirty thieving scummy bike thieve censoreds. I hope they get really badly maimed.

That sucks. Seems to be on the rise.

What replacement did you go for?

I want a beater bike I can use for the shopping etc (sold car this year) but it needs to be a) reliable b) not desirable.

This is the replacement. It’s pretty good bang for the Buck. Half decent lock out air shock ( not the usual pretension spring rubbish you’d typically expect at this price point ) 11 speed 1x SRAM Eagle NX GS, decent enough Tektro Hydraulic brakes, and semi decent wheelset ( given the price ). I’m happy with it. This is pretty much going to be my crap weather / main commuter / station bike / pub bike, so I wasn’t looking to spend a fortune on it. I was really surprised they had it in stock, and in my size ( M ) too.

£750, seemingly. Decathlon have 51 bikes less expensive and 50 bikes more expensive,
so it looks like a medium price bike there.

Halfords have 17 bikes more expensive and 73 less expensive,
so it looks like an expensive bike there.
