So after many hours research into DIY painting of bikes I had decided that I was going to go down the Spray.Bike route and paint my bike myself. Once I'd totted up getting a few cans of paint and paid the postage the cost of the job actually didn't seem too 'cheap' and the risk of me messing up seemed quite high... I sent off for a few quotes for powder coating and in the end settled on RAL 5021 and a sandblast and powder coat at a local company for less than just the paint was going to cost me!
Here she is. I think it looks great and am very happy with the finish! Bike looks good as new, I just now need to ride better to do it justice :-D
Nice job, what did the powder coating cost if you don't mind me asking? Here she is. I think it looks great and am very happy with the finish! Bike looks good as new, I just now need to ride better to do it justice :-D

I got a whole bunch of quotes locally... I went with the guys who were closest and got back to me quickest AND were cheapest... Cost me £40 for sand blasting and coating in a single colour. Bargain.http://www.raltechfinishers.co.uk/
I can thoroughly recommend them. I've never had anything blasted and coated before but read lots of horror stories. These guys turned it around in a week and it looks great.

The only 'mistake' they made was that they didn't mask the 'spigot' that the pivot bearings push on to. This was mostly my fault in that perhaps I should have been a little more specific with what I wanted masking as they did the other bits fine! I had to remedy this with an evening of wet and dry to carefully get it back to size although with hindsight I could have used paint stripper if I'd had some!
Not great pics I'm afraid, but very happy with my new bike! After much umming and ahhing, finally took the decision to relegate my 7 year old Specialized Allez to winter/bad weather duties and will be doing sunny summer miles on this.
Cube GTC Attain Race, carbon frame and fork, full Ultegra 6800 apart from the brakes. It was a return that Rutland Cycles had from a customer because it had a couple of scratches (the barely noticeable white marks on the stem and top-tube in pics 2 and 3). As such, it was £1,600 reduced to £999 and then reduced to £900 because it was a return, plus they had £50 off for spending over £500 and £40 cashback from Topcashback, so all in it was just over £800! My Allez cost £750 and that is an aluminium frame with Sora groupset.

Nice, and a great bargain. I never understand people returning bikes for minor scuffs like that, they'll inevitably pick up far worse within 1,000 km. Moan and get some money off, sure, but return the thing?!Cube GTC Attain Race, carbon frame and fork, full Ultegra 6800 apart from the brakes. Thought I'd see what these fancy electric gears and hydro discs on a road bike is like since I couldn't see the point in upgrading my 15 year old Specialized otherwise.
Very pleasant it turns out. Need to have a play with the DI2 to see what's what.
Saddle hadn't been adjusted in that pic, I'm not quite that gigantic.

My lad is going to be 3 next week, can’t wait to get him going on his first steed!
With the next one, you can start a year earlier Mine has been on his Rothan since 2.His head was too little for many toddler aimed helmets though, finally managed to find one that fitted at Decathalon.

Depends when she’s tall enough to fit on the Frog :-) we waited until our son was 3 as his sister was born a week after his second birthday and we didn’t want to have to deal with a newborn and a crazy 2 year old scooting off on his own at the same time :-) no need to rush these things imo.
Balance bikes are great for getting them on the go, my lad is quite tall and has been on his BB (Spesh Hotwalk) since about 20 months, he was pedalling a bike without stabilisers short distances at just over 2.5yrs.
We've not bought him a proper bike yet (Isla CNOC/Frog 43 etc. ) as he loves the BB so much, he's just turned 3, we're probably gonna get him a bike in the summer as he's now tall and strong enough to pedal along properly.
