Another set of budget SPD shoes for commuting.
The last pair of £40 Shimano ones weren't falling apart but the padding was all over the place but have been used quite a lot since 2012
Luckily I seem managed to get the cleats set nearly the same as the last pair and they're a lot more comfy.
Think I'd have preferred plain black but once it gets dark it won't matter.
which model are these and are they really comfy ?The last pair of £40 Shimano ones weren't falling apart but the padding was all over the place but have been used quite a lot since 2012

I'm literally flying with them. Initial thoughts are they're a lot more comfy than the old ones. There's one point on one foot where I get a similar pinching feeling after a while and need to adjust the straps and move the foot around a bit. It's in exactly the same place as on the last pair though so maybe I need to check my foot for a corn.
They seem nicely put together but are quite eye catching.
A second Carnac Notus lid from Planet X. The first one was great, so I got a second one to replace my stinky commuting lid.

Whilst I was there, I might have also managed to add some gloves and calf guards, (whatever they are) for buttons:

I've been noticing an occasional clicking from my fixie when under load recently. It comes and goes, and i had concluded it was the bottom bracket. Last night I was looking at buying a new 1x11 CX bike, and was reading up on 11 speed chain wear, when I decided it was probably worth checking the chain wasn't the issue on the fixie.
Checking sheldon browns site, 10 links should be 25.4cm, and 25.5cm suggests the chain needs replacing. Armed with a 15mm ruler at work, I checked 5 links, which should have been 12.7cm, my chain was only a little stretch measuring 13.1, or 8 times the recommended stretch!
As such, I have treated myself to a new 1/8" disc cog, chain ring and chain. I currently have 44-18 gearing, but could not find a 1/8" 44t 4 bolt 104mm PCD chain ring, so have switched to 42-17, and ordered all my bits from VeloSolo.
I wanted gold all round, but they didn't have that colour in the bolt cog, so I went with Cro Mo steel instead. Currently resisting the urge to buy some titanium disc brake bolts, to counter the steel weight gain.
I'm expecting it to feel transformed once fitted.

A set of Vision Metron 55s.
I've been looking for a set of new wheels for ages. I'd been looking at Chinese carbons on eBay since some mates had good results with them, but frankly I'm the sort of chap who would get the unlucky set which disintegrated as soon as unboxed. A bad experience with a set of "Zuus" branded Chinese carbon wheels last year further reinforced my bias. So I went from a budget of £350 to spending more like £900...
They arrived not only with some lovely SwissStop carbon pads, but also a padded wheel bag, and what I can only assume are wheel warmers to make sure the poor things didn't get cold in the cardboard box.
The wheels look fab and have a satisfyingly noisy freehub. They are also significantly wider than wheels were when 7900 brakes were designed, and they literally stuck fast underneath the calipers. Even with the washers removed there was hardly any clearance. So I grudgingly went for some 5800 brakes instead, probably negating any weight saving which the wheels afforded me. Cycling is a stupid hobby. Oh, and the 25c Conti GP4kii tyres I had on previously were far too fat for the clearance available, so I had to splash out on some 23s as well.
Nevertheless, I went for a ride on them for the first time this evening and I am delighted. They feel sturdy and make a nice whooshing noise when you brake. Most importantly of all they make the bike look awesome. It is truly the MILF of bikes.

I received my Chinese h bars a few weeks back and have riden few hundred K on them so far.
quality- fine. Bit rough around the edges, but fine. Time, packaging etc all great, cant fault. But when you look at a set of 'proper' bars, there is a big difference. The drop, from stem bolt to the edge of bar slopes away a few cms more then my old Richie set, which makes for a more uncomfortable ride Lower back) Also, cost wise, I paid 100 dollars, plus 30 shipping, plus 25e for bar tape...so all in all not as cheap as expected.
Still glad I tried.
But wheels will be from a European company. I am at the Piancavallo climb of the giro tomorrow followed by the Notte Rosa in Pordenone Friday evening. Hoping for a freebie!

Ref what I mentioned above about my luck with Chinese carbon, I bought some as part of a group buy with some mates. As soon as I tightened the stem bolts past 3Nm there was an unpleasant and terminal cracking noise...Usget said:

Been on the lookout for a replacement frame since discovering a cracked seat stay on my Colnago Master a few weeks ago, been watching eBay like someone obsessed with all possible alerts.
Bit of 'make an offer' negotiating last night should see me with a replacement Colnago frame by the end of the week, gone for some CF this time round.
May still get the Master repaired at some point, it was never quite the build I wanted, but we'll see.
