Ouch !

Counties are now allowed 3 rounds, but you take the points from the best 2 rounds
Does this mean a return for Mantorp or 3 rounds at Tierp?

You HAVE to contest a round in every country on the tour to be eligible for the championship

No more Event low speed points but instead points will be awarded after each qualifying session to the top three qualifiers in that session,

Nice to see the FIA keeping up with the tough financial times, wouldn't like to break the car in the 1st round at tierp, then have to bring it home fix and quickly get back out for Finland, after traveling time there not much of a gap, will have to wait and see what the calendar looks like when it's released

The synic in me says that your right and Santa pod will loose one round next year which will go to mantorp, and the fia are then tryin to force racers to race in other countries rather than just using the 3 sweedish rounds as part of the edrs...

Na pod won't loose a round, Keith wouldn't loose all that revenue from a uk meet, it just wouldn't make financial sense for his own companies If it was to happen i can only think they will squeeze Mantorp in before or after Finland

Well this all sounds nice and complicated.

Particularly as it was deemed too complicated for the fans to run 1/4 mile and 1000ft in the same championship this year.

what it means is we wont have to go to tierp twice or mantorp however it ends up, and they wont have to come here twice, So it is a money saver for british and swedish racers,
it means you cant boycott a country and win the fia championship too
so if germany get a round and no one goes there wont be a champion, and anyone who dont travel to santa pod at least once cant be champion,
it means one of our rounds wont get the entry its used to in some classes,
it means if mantorp get a round tierp wont loose one and to be honest thats probably the main reason for the rule, save tierp at all costs, but its hid in with the other stuff so its not so glaringly obvious,

points structure

MSA pro mod follow the fia points structure,

could be interesting

to be honnest if you went to tierp and broke an engine first round and then couldnt make finland you were never going to be in contention for the title anyway so it realy dont make a difference,
its a change and like the 1000 ft TF it will me moaned about and there will be negatives as well as the good,
and also like 1000 ft TF it will work well wink

True, another thought, weather you like it or not your going Hockenhiem if you want the championship, less pressure on the track to improve after this years debacle

Once it is clearly understood who wanted these rules (I don't follow the politics so forgive my ignorance) then the motivation for the changes will be obvious.

That is a very good point and can only be a good thing.

And the autostart rule just posted on ED doesn't help turbo cars at all.
If turbo cars are allowed in the rules, then they have to be given a little help with staging surely. Unless you have one of these cars then it's not possible to know how hard it is to stage one... Graham knows.

Very interesting, very relieved to see 2 rounds at the pod again. No doubt the success of the euro finals helped that, shame for mantorp, and lets hope hockenheim get their rear ends in gear. I think if I was a racer if rather throw the championship away than go back to hockenheim for another instalment of extreme peddle fest deutch edition.

Well my take on it is that it takes a while in pre stage to get the right boost on the car. Once in stage no problem. Looking at the time frame given there it gives us a distinct disadvantage.
Not sure if Graham has the same thoughts...

I don't in principle object to an autostart system, but I do wonder why it's being introduced now. Who's pushing for it, and what was wrong with the previous manual system? Who makes the decisions on these sorts of things? AFAIK, ultimately it's the world motorsports council, but they don't just make up rules for the sake of it - someone has to propose them initially. I just wonder who that is, and why they're doing it. I'm fairly certain it's not because the teams have been pushing for it, for example, and I doubt any of them were consulted beforehand. Particularly those cars with slower staging procedures, like the turbo PMs.

I think that the track at Hockenheim was a "one-off blooper" this year
and will be laid new for next year´s NitrOlympX, with a traction & prep that is fit for all "Pro" Racing classes.

I was astounded about AutoStart, we had it at Hockenheim for two years but not in 2012.
I think it takes a bit of authority away from the starter,
and could understand it if there were live TV coveragres with tight schedules
which would be affected by the odd burndown.

To the turbo drivers : you will have to rely on a "fair" opponent that does not move
from PreStage to Stage too quickly before you have turned up the boost, I think ?

LOL..not seen too many of them yet. Some trip over themselves to get in quick. A few of guys are good about it,or have the startline routine that helps.

Thats pretty much my take on it as well, mostly a good thing as it stops people boycotting but also takes pressure off from having to do all rounds - a definite benefit with things how they are

Quite like the change in qualifying points - as a spectator anyway, it promotes doing all sessions and pushing rather than sitting out a round, sandbagging and safe numbers. From a racers point of view maybe not so good as there's the cost element.

I'd love to see Mantorp feature again, my favourite European venue smile maybe not perfect but the setting and atmosphere is spot on.

the qualifying points system is bad
on an nhra track which is perfect from session 1 its ok but often our tracks improve over the weekend so big cars often dont do so well in early sessions what it will do is encourage drivers to try too hard when the tracks not at its best

I think most of the changes are not done to give an advantage to any of the set ups. Its just done to follow whatever they are doing in the States.

The big issue this season was the track at Hockenheim, so far only tinkering with the points system and tree. Will be interesting to see if there are any changes with respect to the safety of racing surfaces.
