Where are all the Nitro Funny cars then, The Phelps family had numerous US Funny cars and world champions, Don Garlts, Ray Beadle, Don Prudhomme all world champions from the US and Gene Snow, Tom Hoover.The promotors are robbing it blind, they charge top whack to get in, the charge for the stands(used to be free) the charge the racers to race and pay feck all out, that's why the facilities may be great but there is a lack of top fule racers. The pay feck all in price money.
How can Trevor Duckworth run Top speed week at Elvington and run at at least two other strips on the pittance he charges to enter the events and the small entry fees for racers. He has re-laid the tarmac at Melborne Racway and got it up and running from the tip it was.
Santa Pod are ripping everyone off. Average ticket price £100 x 20,000 Just a cool £2,000,000 for one big weekend meeting, That's without the profit from charging 200 racers a fee to race.
Pay some proper price money and the Nitro Funny cars will return.

I agree that prices at the Pod are dear, but what would you do? Every time I see footage from there for big meetings it is rammed, so maybe you ought to ask the people who attend a lot what they think, they seem happy to spend
I do think the bigger meetings are far too expensive, and it is only up the road from me, but it is a motorway service station mate, like Dumperstone up the road, they have all the big stuff so can charge what they like.
I go very sparingly as a result.
And to counter your Funny Car stuff, they have NEVER been that popular over here, if it was not for Showtime and guys like Spuffard you would have no seen any at all, even Alco cars are few and far between, TF has always been a bigger thing for most teams. Or jet cars

Besides if it doesn't make a profit, it gets closed down and another toytown gets built?
I'm quite happy if they are making money off me, because it means they will fight plans for developing the site and will still be open next year when I want to go and watch some drag racing.
Alton towers is £68 a day now, how much is a ticket to a concert at a decent venue? I think £100 is still pretty good for 2 days of world class drag racing.
Whatever. The Pod deserves our support- it's been getting mine since the Seventies .
On a wider point I am always surprised how few self proclaimed petorlheads actually go to any live motorsport except F1 and BTCC . Thye seem happy to flock to tedious cars n' coffee meets , but autograss , drag racing , club racing and hillclimbs ? Nah

You can say the same about lots of sports, tennis during Wimbledon, cricket during certain tours,the general public are easily pleased and have short attention spans, it's why they like banger racing and caravan races over proper stock cars.
You have to get their attention for a brief period, hence the popularity of things like Goodwood, a huge number of very rare cars usually driven slowly and badly but people pay a premium

The Phelps family used the spectators money to bring American funny cars to the the UK. Now the money is used to line the pockets of the promoters.
You only need to look at how the sport can grow if not robbed blind by promoters by looking at how Trevor Duckworth has completely revitalised drag racing and top speed/ten of the best in the North.

However, I read their accounts filings and since COVID it looks to me like the promoter has been struggling just to keep the business off the wall, let alone in the groove.
