For example, I can remember seeing Liv Berstad run the first 5 at the pod.
Saw Darryl Gwynn run (and crash)
Saw the first 7 sec run by a pair of funnybikes
Watching the pair of Jet dargsters run together after a huge flame show
Any of the few runs that I saw Vanishing Point do.
I think what I like the most is comparing performances, when I first started going to the Pod, Fuel funnys were running mid 6's, and now we have doorlammers run that fast !

sammy miller back in the early 80s i was 4 years old and its one of the very 1st memories i have. think he ran a high 3 and thats the point when i told my dad thats what i wanted to do and drag racing has been my obbsesion ever since.
other memories of note are barry sheavils ruuning the 1st methanol 5 at pod against anita mikaela in the final, and also winning my 1st event on fathers day. hell of a present for crew chief/dad.

Seeing Vanishing Point run during the mid 80s is probably my personal highlight, although I don't recall if they were his famous 3 second runs. More recently, Kim Reymond's 4.64 takes the honours. Annoyingly, having attended loads of meetings in the years before and seeing people get oh so close, I didn't go when Barry Sheavills broke into the 4s, nor was I there to see him and Andy Carter run the side by side 4s/300mph. Quite enjoyed seeing Smax win the championship as well.
Sadly I never got to see Sammy Miller in Vanishing Point in the 80s, but I am so glad that I saw him run for the last time at the Speedfreaks Ball a couple of years ago...he cut the thing off at the 1/8 doing well over 200 and still went 5.01/195
Waiting for him to arrive with the car I was expecting a motorcade of publicity etc, but he drove in with the car on an open back trailer pulled by a plain little Chevy S10 pickup, just like any of us turning up for a RWYB. Except he had the fastest car in the world on the trailer. Awesome, and a really nice guy.

Och! A thread after my own drag racing heart! I will always remember the match racing jets and scorpion. Bjorn Ardin, Rune Fjeld, Liv Berstadt, Viveca Averstedt..names names names. The side by side 4 sec 300mph with Carter (we have the timing ticket...rar!) The old super gas wars with Sylvia Houser brings back memories with her dodge challenger and pink sierra. Spencer winning the 20th anniversary of super gas race will always stick, it was a magical day.

i always thought that was the most awesome thing.Little small block running those numbers at the time....
But for me the best cars are doorslammers(oddly enough..)Dave Pollen's Manta,Steve Greens Cortina spurred me on to do the same things as they did..
Current car has to be Micke Gullquists 57 Chevy....it's looks,sounds and goes exactly as it says on the tin...

Anyone remember the Pied Piper Mustang ? I saw that win garys international doorslammers a few years ago.
Correct me if Im mistaken, wasnt Brian Patemans 'bird one of the first 10 sec street cars ?
Another car I always liked was a Vaux Firenza, running a lotus twincam and gas, lovely snappy motor, think the driver was ron/roy kidgell (???)

Ron Kiddell, sweet sixteen Firenza, quite a piece that was. He went on to drive the Hemi-Hunter Pro Comp Dragster. He is now back in the sport, running some four wheel drive subaru or something similar in the Imports events. Running nines though, so none too shabby..

Sure do, that's Jeff Manni's car, he writes for ACW and is on here from time to time too as Mr Kipling.
The Pied Piper turned up again recently and looks to be in very good nick.
Jeff is still Mustang through and through and runs an '05 Mustang GT as his daily driver, and has a Novi blown fox body Mustang too, which was recently dynod at 606bhp. We lined up at the Mopar Nationals this year and he beat me fair and square with an 11.65 to my 11.80, both of us running personal bests and in full street trim on road tyres. He's run high 10s on slicks, and the car twists and pulls the front wheels up like a good un...

Personally, I'd like to see more of these cars at the mainstream events, not just their own import events. I'm guessing they stick to the Jap style events as that's their market, but it would be nice to see them mixing it a bit at the mainstream meetings - give an extra bit of spice to things.
