Hi. I've been doing a bit of drag racing in my road car over the last few years. It's a '73 Datsun 240z with a lexus engine. The car is mainly used as a daily driver and track car at the weekends but it does go quite well on the drag strip. My best time at Santa Pod is 11.10@132.5mph on road tyres. I'm aiming to get in the 10's this year.........but then again, I was aiming for that last year!

Here's a pic from north weald:

Hi Terry, and welcome to the straight folks here in DragHeads !

For going faster, I would try smaller (not so wide) front tires as the Santa Pod surface is quite sticky

and roll resistance would be reduced.

Hi Turn7
sorry for the late reply but new members were stopped from posting for around 4 days, reason for the M3 lump was at the time N/A and six cylinders and 340 hp out the box besides i wanted to be different from a 1jz or skyline engine

Hello All...

I'm Chris, from the Manchester area. Used to be involved in the Motorsport business back in the day but nowadays it's more of a hobby, however the drag racing bug has never left me. I had a pretty swift Mitsubishi Evo RS which ran a 9.89 back about 10 years ago, and it was a sad day when I sold it!

Originally got into drag racing about 20 years ago when we used to go and watch my mates uncle Craig Winstanley run his Fugitive up the track. What a mental machine!

Just recently got back into drag racing last season after tinkering with a Mazda MX5 for the last 4 years, having transplanted the 1JZ Toyota engine and running gear from the Supra into the MX5. First season out last year, I managed a best ET of 11.51 running 425hp, with a 1.8 60ft / 127mph. This year, I now have 530hp but on the first event at Shakey a few weeks ago, managed to break my 'unbreakable' S155 grade driveshafts! As we speak, more rear Diff upgrades, extra rear bracing and a new set of driveshafts and I'll be out again soon...

Hoping for 10's this year... Fingers crossed!

Be good to hear from anyone running RWD / JDM cars especially MX5's that have run quick times.

Cheers

Hi all!
I'm James, recently bought myself an XJ6 Jaguar to turn into a roadlegal drag car.
4.0 straight six, currently stripped out with cables everywhere! I am yet to take her up the strip; but I will do very soon.
Just saying "hi" and any advice is always welcome, now to browse the pages for brain-food!
All the best,
James

Suppose I should really have signed up to this earlier!

Hi, I'm Andy, currently crewing on my mates Super Pro Mk1 Ford Cortina and also having a dabble in Sportsman ET.

Running a mid-13s 1989 Chevrolet Camaro Iroc-Z in Sportsman, it's a fun class to run in, doesn't matter what is in the other lane you still have to get round it.

2018 will be my third full season and also my last, but have other things lined up for 2019.

All time dream car would be the Championship Speedshop Nostalgia TF Dragster, even though I'm a firm believer in real cars have doors.

A hit of the throttle in a nitro powered dragster will rapidly cure you of that misconception ;-)

I have been helping MSK Racing in Bahrain through setting up the suspension on their Street 9.5 class bikes (I also do their overall bike set-up on their track racing bikes).

Wonderful thread and just reading it makes the hairs stand up!

Very cool insight into all things 1320...

Running a TEN at the Pod is a lifetime ambition for most.
I did my first TEN at Shakey, brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it...
