I have the first generation S2K currently with the 16" wheels and the lack of performance tyre is compelling me to upgrade to some OEM 17" wheels very soon. Looking at tyre choices out there, Michelin PS4 and Goodyear Eagle F1 Asy 5, seem to rate well. Great review by Tyre reviews on Youtube.

With the current offers through Black Circles, buying 4 saves a few quid, Goodyear coming out more economical. Any experience of both tyres from S2K owners or any specific tyre I have missed?

Not looking to track, just fast road.

Thanks
G

I run Avon ZV7s on my MY ‘99 S2K and they’re perfectly fine.
You are a bit limited on the 16s but I think there’s a risk of over thinking it. Any decent tyre with the right pressures and geo set up should be ok imho.

I have had no issues with the Goodyear Asynch, mine are a few years old and are only the Asynch 3's. I cant imagine either choice would be a bad one.

Thanks tyre review suggested lack of PS4S variant made the driving not as "sporty"

Yes, probably right. Goodyear's come in around £50 cheaper with current offers..

Maybe, but the PS4 I have driven had very decent steering and handling...plus they wore very slowly relative to how they were driven.

If you do pick the Goodyears make sure you get the extra load version. I've had assym. 2's on mine for years but always hated the sidewall flexing (did not have the XL version) otherwise they were excellent. I've just replaced them for PS4's and I'm really happy so far! Turn in feels so much nicer. Obviously that's partly due to being new tyres, but they feel much stiffer. The S2000 really needs tyres with stiff sidewalls.

This is why I like the Michelins, stiff (but not overly so) laterally, giving linear and direct steering and bloody brilliant tread compounds giving loads of grip, dry and wet. Also super forgiving grip loss, dry and wet. Good or very good wear.

Ive used Uniroyal Rainsports for years now, used Michelin Pilotsport before then and found they were dire in the wet weather.

For the front 215/45/17, cannot seem to find extra load tyres.. Only on the rears 245/40/17 can I find XL.

They do exist though, the regular goodyear eagle f1 a5 (in 215/45/17) have a load rating of 87y, the xl version has a 91y load rating. It's hard to compare sidewall stiffness just by load rating (tyre compounds and design can be very different) and the newer version could be much better, but I never got on with my assymetric 2's with the 87y load rating. Especially in hot weather they were really vague and didn't inspire any confidence. They also got great reviews at the time, but I guess every car is different. Personally i'd pick the Michelin ps4's.

Thanks, looking on black tyres, seems the Goodyear have the XL only, no Michelin in those sizes, which is odd..

AD08 Yokohama’s on my DC2. Brilliant tyre- plenty of sidewall strength & loads of grip in the dry.

Not so keen on masses of standing water in the wet but still grips well...

Another vote here for Yokohama. I had Advan Sport V105 on my 911 and they were excellent.
