Here are 13 of Top Gear's best ever performance cars:

Nice to see the FL5 Type R take 2023:
"It’s not the fastest or most expensive car here, it’s not even the most thrilling. But it’s the car that you’d get the most out of, more of the time, on road or track. It’s a co-conspirator rather than a challenge, and it’s one for the drivers. In terms of nailing the brief, the Honda Civic Type R is it."

Thanks for sharing. These are definitely on my shopping list but since I am stuck, like many of us of a certain age, on prices from the early 00's, I just cannot justify £40k+ for one right now.
I bought an EP3 CTR brand new in 2003 for £16,200 (was £15,995 list but I added AC). In today's money that is £29,893. If I could get and FL5 under £30k I wouldnt hesitate .

Top Gear's Anti-Awards: these are the biggest failures of 2025:

"Tragedy of the year: RIP Type R
The Honda Civic Type R, Top Gear’s 2022 Car of the Year and 2023 Performance Car of the Year, is very possibly the greatest hot hatch of all time. Sharper than any GTI, more rounded than any Fast Ford, and no longer an absolute war wound to look at. Naturally then, Honda has abruptly removed it from sale halfway into its life cycle (in Europe) because its 189g/km CO2 output is too damaging to the all-important ‘fleet average’ lawmakers eye beadily, poised to dish out eye-watering fines.
We live in a world where a 2.8-tonne BMW XM is officially ‘greener’ than a 2.0-litre Civic. Madness."

A nice review of 'Peak Honda', the EK9 CTR vs AP1 S2000.
Interesting that the S2000 still wears the UK plate in California. I dont know the rules over there but seems quite cool.
X32 BLB, anyone's old car on here?

I'm really impressed with this....

I always reset the trip when I fill up so what you see is what was recorded for one tank. (I had 18 miles left of range)
Ok, so yes, I was driving at between 60 and 65 on the motorway and dipping the clutch when going downhill. Around 200 miles of that was mixed town driving with some spirited A road driving thrown in.
There's no way my old Subaru could have ever managed those kind of figures.

Some great cars here. This Accord CL7 Euro-R is actually my first Honda,I've been into my Japanese cars ,especially Toyotas, for a long time now.
I had a mint original black JDM Celica ST205 GT-Four (my second one) for a bit,but due to grandkid pickups and other commitments I needed something that was a 'weekend' car but something more practical . 4 doors and a decent boot but something I'd actually want to have a bit of fun in.So my DC5 owning mate suggested the Euro, which I wasn't aware of.Long story short,a great experience with Darren at Torque GT and I purchased this car from them in 2020.
Wow I've had it that long.Took these pics 2022,I like them, the car hasn't changed as it doesnt do loads of miles and is still super clean. The white on a Euro is Pearl White, not Championship White.Up close in the sunlight the metallic pearl in the paint pops really well.

I took it to my mate Gray at Skewer for the decals, fancied a change after couple of years ownership .I like it.
It also had a trip up to Paul West at TPW engineering for a mapping session. The car has numerous Hardrace uprated suspension parts and Tein Flex Z coilovers, but it also has a longarm Injen induction setup and a Legalis R exhaust system.so all dialled in she sits at 250BHP,more importantly though the throttle response is brilliant, midrange power delivery is much improved with VTEC crossover @ 4500 RPM so much more liveable early power delivery.
Car does everything I need it to,quick, comfy, especially with the lovely factory full Recaro interior, spacious and reliable. And you don't see many of these about, they fly under the radar a bit in the 'JDM' world, but you have the K20 and LSD 6 speed ,so it's like a DC5 for grown ups lol.Always tell my mate that.Plus it has from factory the RBC intake manifold and multi link rear suspension, neither of which the Integra got.The front brakes as standard are a woeful single pot CL7 item though,no Brembos here. But the UK Accord type R from early 2000 twin pot setup is a straight fit,so that's what I did with Dixcel discs and Z type pads.Much better.Still have it,no plans to move it on. Currently at 101,000 miles.

Looks lovely and some great performance mods. As a long term owner of a CH1 ATR, I agree the Accords are mush more grown up but still can play the hooligan if needed. People are still surprised by how quick it is. CL7 is criminally underrated imo.
Thanks! Yeah its a pretty much does-everything-well car.I can pop along and drop one of the kids off somewhere smoothly and safely, then take the long way home via the B roads and have some proper fun.Its an engaging drive, the suspension mods help that obviously. It does have EPS not hydraulic power steering which some might think numbs the input side of it a bit,but to be honest it doesn't feel like it has no 'sharpness' to it.If someone wanted a DC5 or the like but needed practicality, this sits in a very sweet spot for that and they are underrated, though a lot of people won't know they exist.Torque do get a few in though regularly.
I'm not surprised you still have the CH1, probably for the same reasons I really don't feel the need to change this car after 6 years.Still enjoy getting in it and the way it drives.
Hondas I have owned...
96 Civic Saloon 1.4 from memory. Unremarkable but reliable as a rock. And about as much fun...
95 Civic coupe 1.5. Opposite of above, a brilliant, brilliant little car, jewell like 1.5, a joy to drive...
So I bought another 96 car, same spec then...
A 1.7 newer shape coupe, low miles, brilliant again.
G I think pop up light Prelude 2 litre twin cam 16v, 4ws, auto, one of the best handling cars I've owned. Telepathic.
Next gen 2 litre Prelude, not as much fun but a lovely old car to drive.
An H plate, or G Civic 16-16i 'gti' thing, wee three door, kept my 16v Golf gti honest.
An old Accord 2.0es coupe. Maybe an early ninties car? Unremarkable but so comfy, cracking engine and box..
90s accord coupe 3 litre v6. Would love another, a brilliant, brilliant car.
Crx mk 1 1.5, mk 2 1600 x 2, loved these. One was quite rare model, bought in Germany by a fella in forces, black, can't remember the model, CRXs were brilliant! Think I preferred the mk1.
Now have a CRZ which we adore
....might have forgotten some....
