2023 Honda Type R - FL5 availability
Discussion
The new Type R is part of my plan to revamp our 2 car household, and hope keep a fun analog ICE car before we’re all totally electrified.
We’ll swap the wife’s X1 for an EV SUV thing, and my C63 estate will be replaced by the Type R. The EV will be used as the family car, and the Type R as the weekend toy + family back up. Still need to get this plan past the mrs…
The price shook me but I’m still in the game. Unfortunately I’m 14th in the queue but my dealer thinks most will drop out and I stand a chance of March allocation. Who knows.
Half tempted to ring around, but every time I start the C63 it warms the cockles of my heart. I’m keen but not desperate.

What market are you in? If UK, unless first on the list with the dealer then not sure this is likely. I was actually first on the list at my dealer and didn’t even get the allocation, went to the owner of the dealership
I'm in the UK, doubt I was 1st or anywhere near 1st on a list as I only registered my interest the Sunday before the launchWent in person to my nearest dealer. I'd never even visited this dealer or any other Honda dealer or have ever even bought a Honda before
Just had a quick chat about the car and my experience of working on Honda powered cars. Left a Post-it with my, name, tel. no. and a short but polite note why I was so interested in buying one as my first Honda
Sales guy called me early Mon. morning said he'd sat down with the other 3 head of sales as they have 4 dealership in their group and he had chosen me as the first person to call for his dealership
Was very surprised to recieve a call as there were only 1 per dealer to sell in the first batch.
Was so impressed that the salesman had given so much thought of who his car was allocated to I had no reservation of letting it go. Was convinced the next person he called would have deserved his place on his list and wouldn't end up in the hands of a flipper/speculator
Which bit of my original post did you not believe?

If both your posts are indeed true, Honda dealers have lost the plot!
Reads to me both dealers made the right choiceGuess the reasons I gave for wanting one and my ownership plans were enough to convince him I wasn't just another 'flipper/speculator'
Wanting to jump into the newest must have limited edition car to only own it until the next must have is released

This is entirely consistent with my experience too.... I went in monthly from putting my initial deposit down in August and they asked me to justify why they should sell me the '1' allocated to them (I was initially 6th in line). They (eventually) told me that they wanted to know it was going to an enthusiast.

I've no history of being a Honda enthusiast but I mentioned to the dealer that I'd spent 10yrs working for HondaThis is entirely consistent with my experience too.... Helping to design 18x Honda F1 cars and a F1 land speed record car powered by V10 V8, V6 hybrid engines
Really wanted a Honda powered car for myself as my 1st ever new car that I'd keep forever
Guess that must have convinced the dealer his car was going to a good home
Just couldn't get my head round the price, could have bought it, enjoyed it for a few miles, then flipped it for an easy profit but thought that was a bit mean to the next Honda enthusiast on the list

That will be a customers car, I don’t think you will see any type R’s in a showroom as all the allocation will be sold
It was a more a metaphor for them making decent car(s) again.Even if they're only making 1 or 2 per dealer.
When I went in they had the god awful last gen Civic and worthy but totally unremarkable Jazz and CRV in the showroom, that was it.
those who missed out on 1st allocation and were high on their list and possibly took a deposit (a dealer decision) from keen customers will likely take up the next allocation very quickly. there is talk that only 2 allocations per year for HUK. Overall numbers will be limited as HUK have confirmed to media outlets that numbers will be in "100's not thousands"

Had a mail from my dealer yesterday. Their allocation is one car which is sold and I'll get updates as necessary, looks doubtful, deposit left just in case. Maybe time to consider alternatives, Yaris GR a possible.
