May be the minority but the last few type rs have lost their appeal
To me completely, I currently have 2 championship white FN2’s and had the EP3 before that, the FK2 was the last type R which you’d recognise as a civic type r
I had an EP3 and loved it. The FL5 is quite a bit bigger, packed with significantly more tech/equipment and no longer has a NA high revving engine. It's also put on a few hundred kilos of weight.

Does it dilute or deviate from the original Type R ethos? To be honest, having driven one I couldn't care less. It's utterly brilliant in ways my EP3 could only dream of.

Times change and my only criticism is that cars are expensive nowadays. But what else isn't. As far as the FL5 and FK8 go, Honda have maintained the manual, FWD format, huge practically and most importantly IMO commitment to engineering. They're still top notch products and their standing as the best driver's hot hatches is likely to be true.

Can't get much more appealing than that but it's definitely a personal thing and there's nothing wrong with your stance.

I’ve can’t comment on how they drive, however being a Honda type R I’m sure they are brilliant to drive.

I think post the FK2 they resemble Integras more so than Civics.

If I purchase another type r it will most likely be the FK2, out of my two CW fn2’s ones tastefully modded and the other I’ve owned since new, standard with ultra low mileage, immaculate inside and out with full service history, I think I’ll be keeping hold of that one.

Yeah you make a good point. I quite like the new intergra but it is closer to that than the boxy hatches of old. It's questionable whether it's still a classic hatchback and used to think the same when they used to test the Octavia vRS against other hatches. I'm ok with it though and the driving experience kind of makes you forget about it.

I like the FN2, despite it never feeling the love. Still a great car and definitely worth keeping the stock one you've had from new. They just don't make engines like that any more.

Having said that, Honda have done a superb job on the current 2.0. It breathes so freely up to the redline that it almost makes up for not topping out at 8.25k. It doesn't sound the best but think that's due to legislation than Honda.

But the rest of it is there. Fantastic seats, driving position, gear change/location of the gear lever/knob, handling and ride quality. I'd have one in a heartbeat and am 100% jealous of those fortunate enough to have one on the drive.

Having sold my 25 year old 996 GT3, I am looking at one of these as a do everything fun car.
I nearly bought a local 1 owner, low miles sonic grey FK8 for £22k a year ago but just couldn't get around the styling (I'm 54!)

Cash buyer. What are peoples thoughts on trying to haggle more from dealers or buying a 1 year old used one.
Are sellers being sensible in terms of used pricing given the discounts on new ones?...for example, I can't see this being a £40k car private...

I'm in a similar boat, selling my M4 shortly and as an ex-Honda head who's had nearly every fast Honda bar an NSX, I'd really love an FL5 for a while - I always admired what the FK8 can do and how well it was reviewed, but just couldn't bring myself to buy one as it's a bit on the lairy side for my age (late 40s). 20 years ago it wouldn't have been an issue. The FL5 seems to take all the best bits of that car and put them in a more relaxed and mature looking package.

They're quite beefy looking on the road too with the flared arches, one passed me the other day and I'm pretty sure the guy had fitted springs and spacers, it had a very aggressive stance even if the styling itself has been toned down.

I'm picking up a new FL5 CTR on Saturday, quite a change from a Jazz!

Do any of you owners have any hits or tips after owning your car over time please?

Congrats! I'm due to get mine on Monday biggrin

I have a set of Alplus stone guards ready to go on, and plan on disabling the sat nav to remove some of the bongs, but also keen to hear from other owners.

Is there a go-to drive mode that most people end up in?

From watching YouTube clips people seems to use the individual driving mode. Everything gets set to R+ bar the suspension, which gets set to comfort. Congratulations too!

Just be aware that disabling the Sat Nav does get rid of the speed warnings etc, but i have also seen that if you use Android Auto it doesn't work properly due to the existing sat nav using the same gps or something. It will show the map but doesn't do the turn by turn directions. It doesn't affect Apple Car Play if you disable the Sat Nav, just Android Auto

Fingers crossed they've fixed that bug as I'm planning to use Waze to get me home!

Edit: Drive home and Waze had turn by turn navigation working on the driver's display.

Some reasonable offers through CarWow etc on FL5 remaining stock in the UK - about 7% off the car, but finance still not as good as Honda headline rate of 5.9%.

Does anybody know how many stock cars Honda UK still have? Are all colour options still available? Type R has been all but eradicated from the Honda UK website.

My Model 3 LR has to go back in December and might jump back to a manual petrol for a last go before electric becomes mandatory.

Think there’s about three or four white ones left, and at least one blue one.

Am sure someone who works for a dealership could check current stock levels and confirm, but it’s probably less than ten left in the dealer network.

I was in at my dealer today, and he couldn’t see any unregistered ones left anywhere.

There was one left in the network (Championship White) about a week ago. Presumably that's now been taken.

There appears to be a lot of FOMO generation going on by some dealers at the moment - for example I was told today that if I didn’t buy their car, I would ‘never again be able to buy an unregistered Type R in the UK’.

Leaving the future Type R hybrid debate to one side, I happen to know Honda UK will release more cars for sale, fresh from Japan, in November. As CTR production continues into next year, the likes of the Chiswick Honda’s ‘Last Ever Black Type R’ bolleaux is becoming increasingly widespread.

Honda will sell as many of these worldwide as they can before the regulations stop them. The fact UK supply is relatively short right now, as the current batch bought up, appears to be generating a false sense of FOMO.

How many cars are they bringing over in November?

Honda UK will have to be pretty confident that they can sell all of them before 1st January when Euro 6e-bis comes into effect and means they are no longer allowed to sell them. Unless they pre-register all of them first, possibly.

No numbers given, just that another batch would be released. I
imagine they’ll all sell - the recent support and finance incentives seemed to have worked well. Plus the dealer FOMO rubbish.

The UK doesn t mandate Euro 6e-bis testing for all new car and van registrations until April 2026.

Good news then for anyone still thinking about getting one…

How did you find out that another batch was on its way over?

One of the larger dealers I’ve recently contacted told me. All of the others have been pushing the line of ‘this is your last chance’ or similar.

This one said (quote) “We have been told there will be a final pool of Civic Type R stock released in November from Honda UK, however you will probably have to wait a couple of weeks to get your hands on one.”
