991 to FL5 Type R ?

Any ex 911 owners care to comment on my current dilemma ?
I have had various 911s for over 20 years and my current daily is the 991.1 C2S pdk……it’s great, no question about that put the added practically of the civic boot space is really appealing linked to the awesome reviews it gets and the fact it’s manual and last of the line. Throw in the fact that back in the late 90s I could have ordered a civic vti as a company car but didn’t despite being wowed on the test drive by the engine…..so for years I’ve admired the civics and feel I should have one before it’s too late!
The flip side is I love 911s…..maybe I need an “affair” with a type r !
Say I kept it for 2 years would I be better buying brand new so I’ve got a one owner low miles car to sell or go for 40k used one with 8-10k miles
Any views appreciated !

Similar situation to you , I sold my GTS earlier this year ….deeply regret it. I bought an S3 , probably not as good a driver as the Honda but a swift upmarket hatchback. I don’t dislike it but I miss driving a 911 every time I’m out in the car…seriously thinking of going back. Take care and be 100% sure as nothing drives anything like a 911. Good luck with choice.
You definitely need to go and drive one. It's chalk and cheese compared to a 911 in pretty much every respect.
I'm 1000 miles in to mine and am probably still in the honeymoon phase. I was hoping to fall for it enough that I could move my GT4 on, but they're just so different I don't see that happening now ...oh well

Consider the FK8 - Unless it's a hard stop on the looks front, which is the case for some, the FL5 mostly polish rather than major changes, and much cheaper - Potentially something you could run alongside the 911?
A fair number of Porsche owners have been wowed; I know one who has done work with Porsche in the past and described the car and driving experience like Porsche made a FWD GT3 Car.

If you have been driving a 911 for a while you will become accustomed to how good is it. You need to drive something else for a bit and then drive your 911 again to retrain your brain into realising how good it is. Don't make the mistake of assuming anything else you buy will be anywhere near as good. Most cars fall short.

Did take a test drive in one and although not spirited, could tell it was well engineered, maybe I should buy one and keep the 911, as I don’t see the 991 slipping in value at the moment. Thanks for posting, what colour did you go for ?
Keeping both would be ideal, at least until you know how well you're getting on with the Civic.
Mine ticks boxes for me that the Cayman just can't. IE, I can fit the kids in the back (they say there's more space in the back compared to the Golf it replaced), I was able to fit a mountain bike in the boot with the seats down, etc.
I think I might actually prefer the ride in the GT4. It also has none of the nannying controls to be turned off each drive, sounds MUCH better and whilst I really like the interior of the Civic, it feels well built with no rattles, the Porsche just feels a different level of quality.
I went Sonic Grey, I really like it and it looks almost blue in some lights...

Update…sold the 991 yesterday, picked up a Type R today.
Bought it in Preston so made sense to head up to the lakes, loving it! Such fun through the tight bends.
I think the problem with an auto is it’s too easy just to leave it in D and you loose so much of the driver engagement that a good manual gearbox offers
The tech will be interesting too, I wonder if,
In time, the interference and warnings will
Become a major annoyance vs the upside of the gadgetry the digital dash offers.

I don’t think the tech thing is going to be an annoyance, being 61 I’ve got to the age where a bit of assistance in life is needed 🤣🤣. Correct me if I’m wrong on these points but but from what I can work out so far
The lane assist needs to be switched on for it to fully work with steering wheel inputs otherwise you just get the light on the dashboard? Ans when you do have it on, say on the motorway it actively keeps you in the lane rather than just giving you a steering wheel rumble when you go over a line without indicator
Speed warnings are just by the light on the dashboard flashing I think my audible warnings are off
So the upside of the tech such as the lights working on high beam automatically and the radar cruise, blind spot warning are all super useful.
The suspension is awesome in terms of comfort and poise through fast bends, gearbox is everything you ever wanted from a Manual and more. Engine gets more rewarding higher up the rev range….its all been said before hasn’t it !?

Lane assist does need to be switched on and unlike a CRV for example, doesn't work at low speeds. I only use it once I'm in 6th gear. It is effective and can take corners well.
I've enabled wireless Android auto on my unit (see YouTube videos) and that's about it for mods. PPF on the front and leading edges as paint can be soft.
