I agree because it's delivered at almost the same RPM. Even more significant maybe is the jump in torque. Honda UK have shot themselves in the proverbial foot (again).

432mm discs?

I also wondered how the front discs can be 17inch, under an 18 inch wheel.

Even with a 17 inch wheel specifically designed for big brakes, 330mm with an 8 pot calliper is the absolute limit for me on my car.

Perhaps they are Type-R Tardis wheels and can accomodate brakes bigger than the wheels themselves ?????

Got to admit never did take to the new UK Type R. Probably would prefer the look of Japan version-after all wasn't the Jap Integra a better car than UK (& in production for longer as Matt Neal would testify)

I don't know whats wrong with you all! The Civic type R you get in the UK may be a bit Golf Gti in some areas but it looks superb, especially in black. We get the dopey looking Civic sedan that this is based on and they look cross-eyed and just plain ugly. So which one will Honda Australia import? This one will undoubtedly be cheaper, coming from Japan rather than the UK (I'm assuming they aren't making the Thai Civic we get in type R format, hence Japan) or will we get the infinitely more marketable for Australia UK version, which won't render you infertile by shaking your balls off everytime you keep it in second?

Me is confuzzzed.

Erm, I'll take which ever is more focussed at the expense of everything else. If I wanted a lame tart wagon, I'd buy a Renault 225. This is prettier, and from the spec sheet, more extreme, to boot.

According to the Japanese press info the front disks are 320mm with aluminium Brembo calipers.

There appears to be more effort in weight saving too (lightened rear screen for example), though the weight is still 1250kg (without aircon, 1270 with it). For comparison, the EU CTR GT tested by Autocar weighed in at more than 1330kg.

Still better off in this segment buying an old DC2 then... or even a DC5. It's not like these cars are company fleet material or anything, they are likely to be for enthusiasts and/or track work, and so in theory they will go for the best ones not just the newest as if it's the best...??

I agree - or a Civic VTi!

I much prefer the jdm 4 door evo style look, the uk ctr looks boring. What I don't understand is why they don't sell the jdm ctr in this country, even if it were £20,000 there would still be people queuing up to buy them.

That looks fantastic, not trying too hard but pulls off the styling well just like the DC5 Integra.

They should sell this alongside our UK Civic Type R's and rebrand this as an Integra. Mind you Honda missed a trick not selling the older DC5 Integra over here, and their reasoning was bizarre. They said they wouldn't import the DC5 as it would 'steal sales from the Civic'. Eh? As long as your customer has walked away with a Honda, who cares if it's a Civic or an Integra??!

I should start by saying that I've not driven the new Civic in any form. I thoroughly enjoyed borrowing a friend's 2004 model and was expecting great things from the new one.

Last year I moved from the UK to Australia via India.
The Indian press reaction to the new Civic range was one of rapture. Here was a car that the middle-classes could drive and which seemed to have skipped a generation.
The Australian press like the new Civic but frequently refer to the looks of the Euro-spec version. They seem to feel diddled out of the stunning looks, but never fail to mention the torsion-beam rear suspension with a certain amount of derision.
The British press seem to have the same impression as the Aussie press, except that they're on the other side of the fence.

Here in Australia there are two Accords on sale: The Accord and the Accord Euro. The Euro is the one that we get in the UK (no surprises there, then) and the regular is one that's more in line with other local sedans.
The ploy seems to work, with the Euro being more exclusive and commanding a premium price.

That's slightly off on a tangent though. I guess my point is that there's nothing stopping Honda from bringing the sedan version to Europe. There's been talk of a double-hard Type-RR version in the past, and this could be just the ticket.

It's strange then, that despite the Australian press quietly criticising the European Civic for it's handling, Honda AU have decided to import that very model instead of the Japanese version. Given that the rest of the Civic range is based on the sedan, they must surely have been in the position of being able to choose from either.

If you were them, which would you have imported?

As an enthusiast, I'd much rather the sedan, and would happily pay more for it than the hatch. It is a way better execution of the Type R philosophy.

I have to admit that itsalways irritated me that we don't ever get the ful Type-R experience in the UK compared to the Japanese spec models and thats always been one of the reasons that I've never ended up getting one. Also the Civic shown is the previous generation and we have now moved on so whilst it may have the spec which is attractive, firsly we can't get it and secondly if you did everyone would think you had an old model.

It's not the old model Civic at all. Your can actually buy this 4 door bodyshell Civic in the uk now... unfortunatly it's the Hybrid. but this Saloon body is the all new 2006 Civic shape, all be it the 2006 Civic as sold in Japan & USA not Europe.

I know the previous model CTR came in for a lot of flak but the new one really isn't anything like as bad. It certainly looks funky but performance and handling is definitely not soft.

Driven back to back with the new Clio 197 I would say the Civic is marginally better even if it does suffer from the "too good" problem that has stopped me buying the likes of an Impreza. It definitely takes more skill to drive the Clio at the same pace but the ultimate pace is much the same. I would rather have the fidgety clio than the too smooth Civic.

Compared to the old DC2 'teg both the clio and the civic are that little bit soft - no argument about it at all. I've never driven the DC5 but everyone tells me it isn't as "good" as the DC2. This saloon version of the new civic certainly looks more like the previous generation of Type-R models but if the chassis is anything like as good as the new UK civic then it certainly promises to be very good indeed.

I still want to know what is happened about the DC5 replacement - other than initial design briefs I've heard nothing for a couple of years. Now that does promise to be the *real* Type-R but only if they stick with the original promises.

Here is Jenson Button giving it a test drive if it ain been posted already.

I really do prefer it to the UK model but then thats the same for a lot of the JDM cars compared to the UK ones.

In addition to the above link i also foudn this which makes an interesting read...
