It's strange then, that despite the Australian press quietly criticising the European Civic for it's handling, Honda AU have decided to import that very model instead of the Japanese version. Given that the rest of the Civic range is based on the sedan, they must surely have been in the position of being able to choose from either.
www.civictyper.com.au/?WT.ac=HP_CTR07

If you were them, which would you have imported?

Answer : Both. The 5dr CTR is more practical & better-looking in some ways, but the PetrolHeads will go for the 4dr CTR. I imagine alot of people who would have bought an Accord Type-R (if it existed) would go for this model as well.

They should sell this alongside our UK Civic Type R's and rebrand this as an Integra. Mind you Honda missed a trick not selling the older DC5 Integra over here, and their reasoning was bizarre. They said they wouldn't import the DC5 as it would 'steal sales from the Civic'. Eh? As long as your customer has walked away with a Honda, who cares if it's a Civic or an Integra??!

Margins........

after all which is cheapest tarting up a shopping car with a few stickers and some nice seats, or a purpose built coupe?

Neither, because they're priced to suit - the difference is we make Civics, they make Integras, so they would have to go back to shipping complete cars, which they do very very little of.

Honda seems to be chasing volume, not integr(a)ty. That's why we gat a stretched Jazz platform in Europe. It's tha Astra market.

Pommie, the Euro-Accord is badged an Acura TSX in the USA: they get a bigger Accord like you. (Inspire to the Japanese).

Honda is going global with this Accurist nonsense; I believe Hondas are being crapped down to make the Accurists look more desirable.

Doesn't matter how many doors or what it looks like, it's got the IRS and more power. I'm going to buy an import.

From what I've read elsewhere, that engine actually is producing in the region of 240ps reliably, in addition the body is 50% more rigid than the JDM DC5R...AND it laps 1.5 secs quicker around Tsukuba than the JDM DC5R.

That says a lot. I wouldn't expect the UK CTR to be as focused as the JDM DC5R, yet this new JDM CTR surpasses even the latter.

Speaks volumes.

Seems like Honda have finally built a worthy successor to the DC2R after all. It's just a shame that no one else is getting it outside the domestic market (for now at least).

Anyone got any idea of a reputable company I could buy one of these from?

Also what kind of cost should I expect?

Thanks,

www.neweraimports.com are second to none. Had 2 of my cars through them and they're nothing short of fantastic, only source top notch cars, as opposed to tarted up lemons. They're pretty much renowned by all the clubs relating to those of us with Jap cars.

17 inch front brakes? rofl and I'll eat my hat. I've got 356mm disks and 8 pots crammed under an 18 inch wheel, no room for anything bigger, let alone another 3 or 4 inches. they'll be 330 max I'm guessing. more like 310-320mm.
Looks good though, very ITR-esque. Shame we won't be getting it but I'm sure there'll be pleanty available before long, much the same as the newer ITR's.

Hi to you all.

Living in Thailand this is pretty much the look of the car we get here, but no type R, just 1.8 and 2.0, I think it one of the ugliest of the saloon cars available from Honda, too wide for trafic and with too many flat, boring surfaces all over, also the dash is a nightmare in sunlight. Not seen the hatch version you have but think it is a lot more exciting to look at on paper, but maybe a bit high off the ground?

I am in Kiev at the moment and have seen a few of these 4 door Civics and have to say that they look very good. The one which really impressed, however, was a 2 door version of it - I think it was a Civic, but there were no badges and it had a full bodykit and big wheels. Whilst not normally a fan of boy-racer type aftermarket body kits this one really impressed. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera with me, but taking a picture might have been dangerous - the rear number plate simply read "Mafia"

that one'd have rear visibility too, which the new ctr completely lacks - essential when enjoyign a vtec moment to check nobody else is enjoying it from a distance.

I think it is ugly though, I think most new hondas are ugly....Just to clear that up

Thing is I'm sure I read somewhere that the price in Japan for their CTR works out at something like £2 - £3k cheaper than ours.... something like £12k, so whats the other £10k for?
